It's a lot better incorporated, even if The Long Road I could appear a bit out of place.

I have this downloaded but still haven't listened to it D: too busy jamming his split with vestiges

Do yourself the favor: Go on a nightwalk or walk in the raid (preferrably somewhere with trees and shit) and listen to this album.

Vestiges' side > Panopticon's

I would definitely agree with that.

Vestiges re-mixed/mastered/whatever their debut and put the much nicer mix on bandcamp and it sounds fantastic, and so does their side of that split. They definitely need a new album like right meow.

it definitely has stronger sonwriting than a lot of his other releases

Collapse had a lot of conceptual ideas tying it all together nicely, but I think this might be the best combination of ideas he might have had.

Collapse and this are on a similar level of quality to me. I may just prefer this one, although not by much.

Yeah I haven't jammed this enough to have a concise enough idea + i'm tired and vaguely intoxicated so
my objectivity is slightly skewed. Although I did just pop out a ballin' review for another album so
who knows. Album's good needless to say.

Will an Agalloch / Opeth fan like this?

Possibly, possibly not. That's not really much of an indicator.

this is nothing like Agalloch/Opeth duh, but it's a good stuff

ok so this is good but some of the shredding is pretty annoying
idk how so many of you guys can criticize bands for being too "wanky" and then think that the endless sloppy sweep-picking in the first song sounds good

Completely agree with the review buddy. Sadly though, if I wanted to go back and explore music he's already treaded through, I would just listen to his first two albums as you explained here:
The fact that Roads to the North is Panopticon’s most refined release since 2009’s Collapse is a telling argument toward the pure simplicity that once drove the band’s first two albums. .
I guess you could argue the melodies are a bit more refined and his freaking crazy drum fills have slightly diminished but its same old, same old and it feels forced (to me that is). I love his style of bm but he's yet to top his first two albums.

I still think his post-rock/shoegaze influenced stuff his best....
