Right, I should have been more descriptive. I mean I don't think these choruses are better, what I was saying was just related to how well Johns delivery is in comparison to older material. I understand the discrepancies with this album, I just love the shit out of it.

As much as I am disgusted with this album, JH definitely sounds amazing and beastly

If you think the vocals are great and "killed it" then they must have really recycled this up or done something remarkably bad

John Henry sounds pretty good clean. it's just weird and hard to get used to. verdict is still out.

John Henry sounds fucking godly on this. Also... this album is growing on me.

After going back and giving this album another chance... It's not bad at all, there are 4 or 5 tracks I really enjoy.

Also, the I just heard Surrealist recently and there's no reason that should have been left off of the album.

I can't believe this is the same band that made Hidden Hands of a Sadist Nation. they're going the way of All That Remains, it seems.

honestly the shittiest song on this album trumps a majority of ATR's discog.

post-Fall of Ideals, maybe.
but that probably was an unfair comparison for me to make anyway. I just felt the same way when I listened to this that I felt when All That Remains dropped Overcome. it's disappointing and feels like a step in the wrong direction.

everything is well executed but it's disappointing to hear such generic sounding songs from a band which you know are capable of so much more

Everything about this record is bland. The saddest of bumps.

the band is apparently off Sumerian and doing a crowdfunding campaign to release their next album independently, which they describe as "the nastiest, no-holds-barred, shreddiest, riffingist, most CRUSHING album in our catalog, allowing the only outside influence to be you, the supporter".
this definitely gives me hope and also leads me to suspect that Sumerian had a lot of influence over the more mainstream sound of this album.

I feel so tempted to donate to the new record. The $20 and $35 rewards are unbelievably fucking good but this album burned me so hard that I feel so iffy

I hope thats true, i always wanted to hear what a heavier Darkest Hour sounds like.

"allowing the only outside influence to be you" this still makes me worried that they will try to make something to please the fans rather than something that THEY want to make.
