Yeah I know it just depressed me sometimes, especially when listening to their best songs like I am right now :/

But they've already done this style to death, so I don't think i could ask for anymore. I do want another relatively experimental album like this though

this album was where things actually started getting interesting again after the relatively boring Ghost Reveries. but then they just went and got rid of the death metal elements that fucking RULED on this... what a shame. last two albums were abysmal

Omair I'd think as a prog fan you'd enjoy this a lot

this cooks for the most part. it's just that certain things feel so tacked-on (the part that repeats itself at the end of heir apparent, intro to hex omega) and i feel like nothing would be lost by removing them

Excellent review though

Maybe I spew too much hate towards this. Haven't heard it properly in a long time. I don't like a lot of the

transitions in the songs, too disjointed for Opeth, and I felt this really strongly when it was

released. Plus GR was always going to be difficult to follow up.

Thanks Fangirl! This might be my best review tbh

@Omair: GR is definitely better, and I'd say the transitions and some of the outros are the albums biggest problems. All the songs are either great or amazing though

Cheers Art. I am now off to eat a roast dinner. I will ponder this while I eat. I shall return.

The Lotus Eater might be the most diverse song they've ever recorded.
