Reading his wiki entry when suddenly:
"In 2009, Hellhammer appeared on Eyes of Noctum's album Inceptum, where he played drums on six tracks. Eyes of Noctum are a black metal band from America featuring Weston Cage, son of Nicolas Cage as their lead singer."
I'm slightly dizzy now.

one true god's son ?!
that's the best thing i've ever read, thanks

Hellhammer is pretty underrated tbh, I hear a lot more about Nicholas Barker, Inferno, Marthus, etc.... than I ever do him. Even when it comes to people talking about OSBM, I hear a lot more about Fenriz and Frost I feel like.

people talk about Marthus? Tbh I don't think I've ever heard people talk about the drums for CoF. They're just kinda metal drumming, yeah? Not much to talk about from what I've heard.

Weston fucking Cage

Inceptum is ok symphonic black metal, actually. Reminds me of Septic Flesh.
And the drummer sounds pretty good.

OK fine, more like a 3.2. That guitar sound is great but quality-wise it's just kinda black metal.

Last 3 Mayhem albums are way, way too underappreciated. Especially this one.

On subsequent listens, this is even better than I remember. Weird song structures, dissonance, beastly drumming abound, all shit I love.

This is their best since their debut.

This is quite brilliant. Head to head with "Grand Declaration of War" for me (I know, almost nobody loves that album..).
