I just legitimately don't think someone could give something like this a 1 unless they were one of the types to say "this isn't music!"
Daniel c'mon man, people could just really dislike the music at hand here. Don't think that's unreasonable in the slightest

Thank you.

but i mean he does have kind of a point
anything i would rate that low i usually dont rate because i probably dont get it. ive almost never come across a piece of music that was objectively bad unless it was just technically not good music (i.e. played by people with no musical ability/training/concept of music)
i dont think its unreasonable to rate something a 1 if you really hate it but it seems almost pointless because there is a very strong change that you're just missing the point/dont understand it.

idk I think giving something a 1 in itself is perfectly legitimate, especially when it can be backed up with an engaged reasoning, which I think Thales has given even if he's being a butt about it

"i.e. played by people with no musical ability/training/concept of music"
i.e. Macintosh Plus.

expertise is not a prerequisite for good music

i dont mean this in the subjective sense of "wow these people are talentless" i mean literally something that is made against all physical constraints of how music is constructed. even avant-garde musicians have an understanding of music so that they can purposefully go against it
like i said ive almost never heard something that actually does this, but its the only reason i could give myself for giving something such a low rating.

damn i cant actually explain what im trying to get at so ill just stop

With this kinda music I agree on this for sure. With other kinds, when there are some artists that are talentless hacks and receiving all the praise in the world for it (coughcough a SHIT-TON of prog-metal bands) I can also see giving something a 1 and having all the understanding you need to.

I guess I've just seen plenty of people 1 things and state they're "not music" as if that's all the justification they need. I didn't really see any justification from Thales to begin w. at the end of the day you can rate things however the fuck you like but you should expect to be shit on if you claim it's "not music."
I'll admit that I was a little peeved at the 1 rating and more than a little peeved at the way thales is acting. sorry dude, you're being a dick. esp to downer who reviewed the damn thing really well.
at the end of the day I made a stupid comment on an internet forum and then I took everyone's criticism of my stupid comment too seriously.

nah there was some good debate that was sparked and this was a pretty good thread despite some silly shit that you are always gonna see in a sputnik thread so no worries bro

No worries Danielito, this is all banter. Besides, conversations like these are always so informative so I'm glad you said what you did- good things for us all to think about

I think what I love about vaporwave is it challenges the notions that make people hate it. Like "oh this is just Diana Ross slowed down" (as if track 2 is JUST that! but it's a common example), like that's inherently a bad thing. I think it sounds cool and it fucks with my brain in delicious ways, as you can see. It and things like it challenge those notions of artistry and I'm all about upturning rockist hierarchies atm
