Singing loud enough to wake the dead
out of tune and out of breath
The Good days is sweet, but tbh, the last 3 songs are my reason for not 5ing this yet. They are merely good. And not fantastic.

River + Roots is where it's at for me.

The only thing I don't care for is his delivery of the vocals in River when the song gets a little more intense. Other than that, it's just a near flawless album for me.

South Street is amazing and Elder and Oak is great. A couple of tracks are stopping me from 5'ing this straight away too but I can see myself doing it in future.

The intese vocals in river are just about the best dam thing ever.
South Street is pre good yeah. Still not one of the strongest songs for me.
But Roots guys. Fantastic.

here is where is definitely brand new-esque in parts
so stay close is one of the best, love the post-rock influence

Here is where and River are the only 2 songs that are somewhat similar sounding to some of the BN stuff. Both of them are highlight's though, so now hard feelings.
so stay close has this really epic explosions in the sky intro which I really dig.

river is great and it climaxes really well, with the strained vocals and everything. my problem is where the first climax ends and it dies down a bit, yet he still continues with the strained vocals. they should have known when to stop and made that the end of the song.

regardless though, other than that nitpick, the album is flawless. i was pretty much blown away. so i bumped it to a 5. hopefully i can get over that niggle with the river.

This is going to mean so much to me in the near future oh my god. Been waiting for an album like this from the post rock/indie/emo scene for a long time now. It's pretty much my favourite genre, and if this grows off me I'll be pissed

i feel exactly the same as you JS19. i've always had in my head that my ideal band would sound somewhere in the ballpark of
Athletics, and i was never sure why they weren't my favourite band of all time despite seemingly doing everything right. but
there will be fireworks has pretty much nailed it here. i am worried about it growing off me because right now im feeling like
ive found one of my all-time favourites.

I think it may be a good idea to give this album a break for a little while, only for a week or two, then come back to it. The last thing you want to do is overplay it to the point you are sick of it. Maybe that's just me though, but I do agree with you two 100% about this album.
Edit: 600 comments woop
