Definitely their weakest effort so far. A few incredible tracks (Afterlife, Night Time I and II, title track) and a whole lot of filler. They sound way too comfortable. The production quality on a few of these tracks (Normal Person especially) is awful.

Maybe it's just the burden of expectations that's preventing me from enjoying this more, but I'm used to almost every song on an Arcade Fire album having a certain level of emotional intensity that immediately grabs my attention, and that's not happening with this.

i really think that this is one of those albums where the more you listen to it the better it gets. Normal Person, After life, Its Never Over (Oh Orpheus) and the title track are my favs so far.

Neon Bible > Funeral = EP > No Cars Go EP > The Suburbs

This is pretty good so far too, but I miss the orchestral highs of Neon Bible, and the beautiful subtleties of Funeral and their original EPs. The Suburbs holds some of Arcade Fire's best musical achievements, but alas some of their worst. This has the Suburb's consistency, yet is is much more rhythmically advanced and pleasing whilst also being rather bloated.
