pure genius..... but deloused easily beat frances the mute.... frances just has to much nothing happening, it gets borring. But when the songs are actually going and the birds quit chirpping it is and amazing record. But i have to say it was a let down hearing that follow Deloused.

I like the EP they put out before this, because all of the BS was in the first 2 minutes of the record and the last 3 minutes of it, so it was easily avoidable.

As for Frances vs. De-Loused. De-Loused by a landslide.

Great album! I like the musicianship on it, and it was a great buy. Excellent review too. I also have Frances the Mute, but I prefer De-Loused.

No way.

De-Loused in the Comatorium is on a diet; it's a lil' sissy who can't handle his meat.

really, this album is better understood once you have read the story written about it. it is also called de-loused in the comatorium. apparatus makes a lot more sense lyrically once you've read it.
first off, to the guy who said that they were crappy punk rockers going prog. ATDI was already pretty prog themselves, so you can't say they went prog, they were prog. i don't understand how anyone can dislike any mars volta song. besides, if you don't like de-loused, listen to frances the mute. it's a completely different sound. they are definitely best to listen to inebriated, all of the sound effects and randomization just makes sense when you're chilling stoned.

De-Loused was about the final days of Julio Venegas, beginning with when he overdosed on morphine and entered a kind of dream world deep inside the depths of his own mind. When he re-awakened out of his coma, he claimed that his real place was inside the dream world and jumped off a turnpike a few days later..

Frances The Mute was based on a diary that Jeremy Ward found in the glove compartment of a car when he was a repo man. It outlines a man's struggle to reunite with his estranged parents after he was put up for adoption by them.

Frances The Mute is so much better than this. This becomes almost bad at points.

Except that Frances never becomes bad. This has several not so great songs.
