Deafheaven came out and everyone forgot this album. Here's a bump to remind them that this is definitely still a thing they should care about. Bump.

New Deafheaven is pretty good, but this blows it away.

What's the point of even comparing them?

To determine who is the illest pseudo-black metal band of the moment, obviously.

They're both black metal and equally deserving attention for breaking molds and taking names, but this is relatively under-appreciated compared to Sunbather as of late. That being said, I thought it appropriate to try and reignite discussion for this record.

It's all experimental and weird and I dig it (and you can too!).

Deafheaven was only okay and this is doing nothing for me at the moment.

This is easily the more diverse and experimental record of the two. Deafheaven just tightened the screws and cut the fat from their sound.

The way I see it is that Deafheaven are a relatively young band and Sunbather is them just starting to figure out their sound while with this album Altar of Plagues have found it for the most part. But I could be wrong I hope they continue down this path while still exploring new ideas.
