What do you guys think if this got remastered to have a more modern sound? Mainly, a less bloated and more airy sound with a binaural soundstage like you hear more often in metal these days. It just sounds like the instruments are being suffocated in older Metallica.

Either bass or the reverb on the guitars is pumped up too high. Maybe both.
I admit I also like how producers these days surround you in guitar, and it seems like Metallica didn't do much of that. I think the reverb (or guitar tone/gain) in newer metal makes the guitars seem "bigger" in your headphones. Whatever it is, it sounds good.
