i honestly almost like each individual song on here but christ if the album itself isnt super homogeneous
i mean i can understand homogeneity but this takes it to another level

"like i actually cannot understand why some people here see fire and brimstone when this band is
mentioned but still flip shit when like Frank Turner or Defeater get attacked"
frank turner isn't good, defeater is but I haven't listened to them in a while. mumford and sons are
worse than both of them.

i honestly think the problem is with how it's been received by the public, not so much the music itself. the way the mainstream music media is hailing these guys as the saviour of indie music and THE ONLY FOLK BAND EVER OMG THERE IS BANJO AND STUFF!!!!! is fucking annoying, and I think that's what people are reacting against. if no one said these things about them then knott and co. probably wouldn't give them a second thought. they'd rate them a 2.5 or a 2 and move on.

wasn't that the whole point of knott's review? that these guys aren't saviors of indie music as they "try or seem to try to be". that they are really not special at all and their songs are supposed to try and sound meaningful when they are instead just lame and boring, trite, ect.?

yes. but i think people claiming that they "try or seem to try to be" the saviours is fucking ridiculous. they make trite, lame, boring music, ok fine. but that's all it is and anything else is just speculation. unless someone can link me to an interview where they say something to that effect then I will still think this whole thing is horse shit. i've said it a thousand times but: if you don't like the music that's totally cool with me, but people lose their shit over this band like they've been personally attacked. they aren't "trying" to do anything except write/play the music they feel like writing/playing.

I just don't find anything about them particularly interesting. hence the 2.5

I love Defeater. Also, the banjo isn't even apart of what interests me so much about their music.

Definitely feeling a light 1 on this one

this ended up being kind of boring. but since i liked their first album it still had some moments that i enjoyed. but overall i can just listen to their first album then listen to a carbon-copy of it.
for those wanting better folk music from this year i highly recommend the much better and more talented Trampled By Turtles. they dont follow a recycled formula that Mumford has produced success with (you can see how mainstream media has little ability to appreciate real music). check them out, their two singles from their past two albums "Alone" and "Wait So Long" are great starting places

The Needle Drop's review.
Totally missed this.

Following the worldwide success of their debut, polarizing London quartet Mumford & Sons don’t exactly spice things up on 2nd LP ‘Babel’. This accessible album has the same strengths & weaknesses as its predecessor, with the folk-pop being even more stadium-sized here. Without a huge hit like ‘Little Lion Man’, Babel’s consistency is pleasant, but ultimately tiresome over its 52 minutes. Yet, it’s hard not to like the way in which the grandiose production emphasizes the catchy sing-alongs & rousing quiet/loud dynamics, meaning this will undoubtedly sell a truck-load to all generations. Recommended Tracks: Broken Crown, Holland Road, I Will Wait & Hopeless Wanderer.

I love the title track on this.

Wish they'd use full drums more often too.

Yeah, I loved that track.

your gripe - “making indie relevant again."
explain how they have, in some way not?
you seem to lead on it's - "because even though Mumford & Sons don’t fearlessly blaze new trails".
but who is saying 'they've reinvented the wheel' and it's because of that 'Mumford has found its
success' thus making indie "relevant" again, hooray! because hell no, that, yes, would
surely be unbelievable

I like this band but I do prefer Trampled by Turtles. Only thing is that appart from both having banjos, it's too totally different kinds of music. Trampled By Turtles is a bluegrass band. Mumford and Son is not.
Any Trampled by Turtles album is awesome, but I would start with Palomino.

You have no idea what you're talking about, controlled, if you actually believe that Mumford & Sons are the founders of anything at all.
