i honestly think the problem is with how it's been received by the public, not so much the music itself. the way the mainstream music media is hailing these guys as the saviour of indie music and THE ONLY FOLK BAND EVER OMG THERE IS BANJO AND STUFF!!!!! is fucking annoying, and I think that's what people are reacting against. if no one said these things about them then knott and co. probably wouldn't give them a second thought. they'd rate them a 2.5 or a 2 and move on.

yes. but i think people claiming that they "try or seem to try to be" the saviours is fucking ridiculous. they make trite, lame, boring music, ok fine. but that's all it is and anything else is just speculation. unless someone can link me to an interview where they say something to that effect then I will still think this whole thing is horse shit. i've said it a thousand times but: if you don't like the music that's totally cool with me, but people lose their shit over this band like they've been personally attacked. they aren't "trying" to do anything except write/play the music they feel like writing/playing.

this ended up being kind of boring. but since i liked their first album it still had some moments that i enjoyed. but overall i can just listen to their first album then listen to a carbon-copy of it.



for those wanting better folk music from this year i highly recommend the much better and more talented Trampled By Turtles. they dont follow a recycled formula that Mumford has produced success with (you can see how mainstream media has little ability to appreciate real music). check them out, their two singles from their past two albums "Alone" and "Wait So Long" are great starting places

Following the worldwide success of their debut, polarizing London quartet Mumford & Sons don’t exactly spice things up on 2nd LP ‘Babel’. This accessible album has the same strengths & weaknesses as its predecessor, with the folk-pop being even more stadium-sized here. Without a huge hit like ‘Little Lion Man’, Babel’s consistency is pleasant, but ultimately tiresome over its 52 minutes. Yet, it’s hard not to like the way in which the grandiose production emphasizes the catchy sing-alongs & rousing quiet/loud dynamics, meaning this will undoubtedly sell a truck-load to all generations. Recommended Tracks: Broken Crown, Holland Road, I Will Wait & Hopeless Wanderer.

I like this band but I do prefer Trampled by Turtles. Only thing is that appart from both having banjos, it's too totally different kinds of music. Trampled By Turtles is a bluegrass band. Mumford and Son is not.



Any Trampled by Turtles album is awesome, but I would start with Palomino.
