If you have the Supporting Caste tab book it's not hard to pick these songs apart. Half of it is just knowing the weird (for punk at least) chord voicings they tend to use and the rest is pretty easy peasy. Ordered the tab book just cuz though, might as well have both haha. Shipping from Canada's a bitch tho.

This album literally saved my life. Chris, we're mind-bros, me too when I was not much older than a toddler, I found the mandatory (Quebec curriculum was confessional still even if we got out of the grip of the Vatican in 1961, where the Confederation of Anglos found the Vatican oppression useful on us non-protestant French Catholics who were allied with the Indians and the Americans (not officially...but, oh history is a fun subject, but yeah anyway, we had to take "Catéchèse" in grade 1 to 6 then it was "Religious Sciences" from 7 to 11. The few protestants didn't have to wait until 14 to make their own choice and they were called by the teachers, always before saying we were going to do "Cathéchèse" (after that it's different, in secondary education, people don't have the same group all the time and then it was making friends all over again in case none of your friends happen to be in the same class you're in)....ahm...rambling...my brain is annoyed with the antibiotic I have to be on, only one day left, I'm cured, but can't risk it, but it gets really mindfucking after a while. All this to say that despite, and maybe even because, school would force us into the first communion and the other thing after, and then in secondary V (last year), I switched to Morals and goddamn I was glad, it was a Religious Sciences teacher who gave it, but it was great, a good introduction to the mandatory 3 Philosophy classes in all colleges here. Also had us watch very important movies, from Gandhi to Enemy of The State, the teacher was ahead of his time in saying that technology could be used for evil and that was his exhibit for it. Also saw a movie about El Salvador and how the US supplied the fascist savages. All this to say, I found the story of Jesus meaningless and devoid of sense at 7-8 year old. Thankfully we're a secular society, it was really bizarre to live in Quebec in the 80's as a kid, idiosyncratic empty churches with mandatory roman catholic church classes and confession, at least once a year in grade 1 to 6 had to go to confession, I would make up stuff...only once I didn't, I gave it a real try, and although the priest's answer was...you know how priests are so calm, it's like they have a huge stash of Valium in Catholic churches hidden somewhere...what he said was a good idea, but not an amazing one on how to resolve my "sin", it was just common sense, the way they say it is made to make you feel good, I guess they are taught this..motherfuckers have to do a PhD to be there, being paid to do nothing, since the early 70's where only a dozen elderly attend Sunday church. (my comment here is to be connected with Supporting Caste's lyrics).

Anyway, Note To Self is breathtaking, the only song that isn't fast here, so it fits as a 6 min+ intro, also a bitch to learn, like Latest Will And Testament, the timing is crazy, I have no musical education but I learned how to play with tabulations and an innate sense of timing, I would have been a drummer if my parents allowed it, they said it would be too noisy...but then they get me a 100 watts Transtubetech Peavey amp...had to play at 1 1/2 max or else it was insane. Kudos on the amazing musicianship, also displayed on the title song, Status Update (fuck Farcebook), Cognitive Suicide, Lotus Gait (the drums in that one...probably my favourite song overall, it's so damn intense and perfect, the vocals harmonies too, which Propagandhi do not use that often, work very well in there and the ender here is another epic, that song about shrooms or DMT (shrooms have 4-hydroxy-DMT in them), is out there...listened to in the proper set of mind and you will feel the waves of a psychedelic...the way they got Chris' voice cutting off and echoing is very reminiscent of my own experience with smoked DPT (slightly modified, legal DMT, dipropyl instead of dimethyltryptamine.

95-97% in another kind of rating more in line with another site I love (metal-archives).

Can't smoke weed anymore johnnyblaze, nothing more than a small pipe hit with just half .1 in the bowl. I smoked everyday for 9 years, 3 of which were only pure hash oil. Nowadays it seems like my body has one hell of a reverse tolerance, I felt it happening a long before I stopped toking everyday, but rode the annoying anxiety that would be added, then I realized, when I met a botanist, the kind who did invent a strain or two, and he told me, you kids who smoke joints with a gram at once in it, for only one person, are not getting it, we're making it more potent per weight so you got to smoke less burning plant material and get your high, if you smoke too much high % cannabis you are mostly wasting it and you can give yourself a psychosis, it's rare, but it happens. I verified and yeah, never had psychosis, but I saw someone definitely go mad after eating too much cannabutter.

Goddamn that cannabutter we made out of leaves was stronger than expected, used 3 garbage bags full of leaves and all that was put in a pound of butter. It turns green, as expected. I can see it, once I made myself firecrackers, I found that my sweet spot per firecracker was 0.55 of the kind of weed I had constant access to (M39...Northern Light X Skunk #1...common in east coast Canada), it's everywhere because of how crazy fast it grows hydroponically. Once I made myself a firecracker with a whole gram in it and I got some kind of psychedelic flashback lol, wasn't pleasant at all.

But yeah, I listened to Converge on weed. Wanna know something? An hardcore album that is particularly amazing on LSD is One King Down's Bloodlust Revenge. The pedal effects they use and the high quality drumming....it's pretty intense...it's like if Inside Out went and made that Rage Against The Machine album, which was only a song, and the only example of it is live. I always noticed a kind of similarity with the guy who sings OKD (except in that album God Loves, Man Kills, where that christian guy was suddenly the frontman of One King Down). Anyway, toke, but toke smart.

"How to Clean everything is their best", get off those nostalgia headphones, there's like 4 songs that are to be taken seriously on that album and funnily enough, they play 3 out of those 4 most of the time when they bother with that album.

I want to say that whoever said that the tracks on side A other than Note To Self are bad are full of shit, Failed States is an amazing hardcore/thrash song, Devil's Creek lyrics and atmosphere is awesome, Rattan Cane is one of Todd's best achievement to date (in his hardcore songs, not his slower song repertoire which is amazing (track 3-4 on my fav album Potemkin City Limits) and Status Update is so complex and technical for a short stab at the shit that is Farcebook, when the double bass drums at the end comes in and that last hyper-speed riff Chris does before ending the song is out of this world, the youtube video where they previewed this song in their practice space is a kick in the balls.

The other half is more Potemkin City Limits like, which is great too, more reflective, but this album is perfect, the only other punk album that came out in 2012 that comes near this is surprisingly NOFX's Self Entitled (which makes their new one so bad, I think it's time to call it quits Fatty).
