They're totally different albums so I guess if you prefer his so-called "protest" era I could see why one might favour that album but personally I think there's huge gulf in quality between the two. I like The Times They Are A-Changin' a lot but overall this is superior in every way imo.

Obviously Times has its standouts (every Dylan album does) but with this album every single song is a standout, except maybe Meet Me in the Mourning (that song is just really good, not amazing).

fair point about the musical differences, the comparison only sprang to mind when you mentioned this was his best folk/acoustic based album, and times they are a changin' is nothing if not folky and acoustic

Would be a 5 if it weren't for Idiot Winds, don't really dig that song much

wtf dude, Idiot Wind is a classic. That's like saying Bringing It All Back Home would be a 5 if it wasn't for It's All Over Now Baby Blue.

This album's consistency is the reason why this is easily Dylan's best album imo. Pretty much every other Bob Dylan album has at least one song that brings it down.

agreed JT. album is ridiculously consistent. Meet Me in The Morning and Lily, Rosemary... are a little less amazing than the rest, but damn, they're still awesome tunes.

idiot wind is a great song but that chorus is nasal even by dylan standards

It's still one of his best songs though.

You'll never know, the hurt I suffered, nor the pain I rise above
And I'll never know the same about you, your holiness, or your kind of love
And it makes me feel so sorry

This album is filled with gems! If you see her, say hello being favorite...good breakup, feel miserable album...totally can't stand Lily and the jack of hearts though, unfortunately.

Meet Me in the Morning is probably my least favourite but I still absolutely love it. Picking my favourites off this is almost impossible.

Meet Me in the Morning is one of my all time greats. This album is sheer class throughout.

this is way better than The Times Are AChanging, his protest music is superficial, arrogant and lame
given that he started his career protesting the US government then took a medal of honor from Obama.
