@bringonthebreakdown - I would agree with your comment about me being close-minded IF I wasn't giving the band an opportunity to begin with. The fact that I stated I am trying to listen should show that I am making an effort NOT to be close-minded.

I've listened to The Grand Conjuration and I love the instrumentation, arrangement, and performance. It's just when I hear the growling.......

My sense of musicality just doesn't jive well with the growling. That's probably why I like very little Metal.

@AngelPhoenix - I hope I am able to overcome this barrier like you have. Because from looking at Opeth's ratings, this seems to be a great band that I am missing out on.This Message Edited On 09.02.08

I hate it when people absolutely refuse to have anything to do with harsh vocals like everyone of my friends

Growling vocals are like any other vocals you haven't gotten used to, it shocks you, you may not even like it at first, but if you give it a chance you might like it. I really don't have a problem with 90% of harsh vocals, but every once in a while I will get slaped in the face with something really something I dislike every now and then...To me, harsh vocals add soo much more emotion at the right times...given if its at the right times, and not being brootal for the sake of it *cough*Waking the Cadaver*cough*This Message Edited On 09.03.08

BWP was a little too hardcore for my lighter taste. I mean, I could tell it was really really good, I just have no desire to listen to it again. I'll probably give it a try in a month or so.

the only good thing about this review is the reviewer's choice of the word lovely. everything else is useless.
