The review's all kinds of crappy, but I'll be damned if it's not refreshing to see someone on this site actually dislike the National.

What's the point in saying that the album is bad just because it's depressive? No one said this was an album to make people feel better...

It would have been a bad album if it wanted to make people feel better and ended up being depressive... Maybe this is just not the album you need...

i see.

still think fake empire and gospel do a nice job of making it a more summery album than everyone thinks though. quite hopeful or just speculative tracks that don't sound that depressing to me.

And even then, the other tracks aren't really depressing as well. Or at least, I don't find lyrical content like that to be depressing. Just "thought-provoking" and confrontational.

Fake Empire are two of the most wintery songs on this. You want a summer album listen to Alligator (or High Violet if it's raining).

Doing gay ballets on ice and hanging holiday rainbow lights in the garden are not sumer activities.

hey yeti do you like alligator more bc if so high five

hi5 buddy.

alligator is boss

and this is a pretty meh review by Sam-Standards. reads more like a 2.5 as you seem to have a general malaise when it comes to this album.

I do as well but find Fake Empire, Apartment Story, Mistaken For Strangers and Squalor Victoria so gripping.

It actually isn't very well written is the thing. I've seen Chambered write much better than what he shows here

well this is not that great by THIS writer's standards, but when as a reader you constantly see horrible reviews on the front page, your standards plummet, I suppose
