Gone With The Wind is so overrated. Now don't get me wrong, it was good back in the 40s when people didn't know as much about the film as they do now, but times have changed.

Reasons for continued hype: kids killing kids omg the drama! the gore! the romance!
Yeah the flaws became more apparent in the second book since all they had left to go with was that 'love triangle', Katniss didn't even really care about the rebellion more than she cared about WHICH ONE I CAN'T SAY NO OMG
There's better stuff out there though, even in the YA section of the bookstore. They should have a better movie for Golden Compass. Or made a Garth Nix movie. I don't care if he wrote fantasy, he still put more thought into his worlds than this writer put into the district one. Come to think of it the Seventh Tower series had 'colored' districts, and much more world-building and action.

the movie was a serviceable adaptation the only thing that was really shit was the fucking shaky cam and cutaway and the overly used 'mute everything and play the uninspired score' technique

i can't say if its better or worse than what's out there since a) i haven't read YA fiction since the buffy the vampire slayer novelizations and b) the only things good about this = that it put an americanized love story into battle royale and that it took me less than a day to read it and also that i could read it while watching buffy.
