"I might bump this to a 4.5 if Reckoning and Murmur are actually is good as everyone says"

why would your rating for Reckoning and Murmur affect this, that makes no sense

Nightswimming is one of the best songs ever, no question.

Nightswimming into Find the River is the holy grail of ending an album.

Yeah, those two are perfect. Man on the Moon is strangely my least favourite song on the album though, not that it's bad

Sidewinder and Moon are probably my least favourite here but they're still unbeatable.

Only Murmur and perhaps Document come close to this for me.

Automatic, Murmur, Pageant and Fables are my 4 favorites. Then, Reckoning, Document and New Adventures. Plenty of more good / great albums they have.

i think their 90s period in general is the most interesting to me, with a little of that early 00s stuff as well (great beyond, animal, some of reveal)

80s were consistent as hell & you could see a pretty smooth evolution, but i love the whole stylistic zig-zag they were doing from automatic to monster to hi-fi to up; plus, i just really like all of those albums

Still haven't heard Up, not a fan of Monster at all though, for me R.E.M. were always consistently excellent since the beginning until the turn of the millennium, a bump in the road here and there aside. After that, they slid down a bit but every once in a while they'd stun people. Accelerate, for example, was a great, short, catchy that few figured they could put out 30+ years in as a band.
