I don't care too much for DGD's self-titled, particularly, but I love this.

The difference for me is mainly the vocal presentation; Kurt finds a much more effective use for his voice with A Lot Like Birds. In terms of instrumentation, though, I could see a comparison.

I hate it when I read that an album is too busy or too hectic. It just shows me that the reviewer is impatient and unable to follow the music.

I don't necessarily think that's true - sometimes albums CAN be too chaotic to be enjoyable, when too many ideas are expressed at once. That's how I feel about Unexpect's latest album... ugh.

I have never objected to too much stuff going on. I tend to like the creativity that comes from playing off of odd rhythms, in the end it just makes me want to listen to it more and try to dissect what's happening. It's nothing more than personal preference.

My objection with this is that the band isn't always necessarily aware of all that's going on, and it's not always the most fruitful thing to try and dissect their music

Just overwhelming. So much warmth and joy, and so much misery. God how I love this band.

seeing them tonight with DGD, should be awesome. I think this album lived up to the hype; it's great from start to finish.

I agree, I love his dancing. Though this album makes me quite sad at times I still love it beyond words.

This can easily be fixed, my friend

I pretty much spin Properties of Friction daily. And Abbr., also, even though it's such a brief interlude. It's likely not meant to be listened to on its own, although I about break that rule daily

yessss!!! this came out! I loved their first album. To me it just seemed like the most original post-hardcore I'd heard in a while and it had interesting instrumentals for a genre that's kinda stale in that department. Thanks for reviewing, it was a good review
