This has to be one of the finest prog albums in a long time.

One aspect I really like about this record is it sounds like dudes that like writing and playing music together
word, this is their most fun album

Now the hypes died down and I've given it some repeated spins, its definitely and rather disappointingly just a 3. Ohh Mastodon .

Really want to give this a listen, but the album cover always puts me out of the mood to do so. I am a horrible person.

Finally heard some of this. My boss was blasting this at work his morning, sounded great. Though,
solely based from what little I've heard, I like "Crack the Skye" more. I will need to download this.
^^ wat.

im not a metal head, friend of the family. love this album. written by brent, in grief and as a memorial to his brother we all lost in december. he was a hunter. i find this album to be filled with grief, anger, and rising again. my prediction...grammy brent is a gifted artist; most will only get a glimpse of his depth via his music .

this is only second to Crack the Skye in my book now. kicks so much ass, might end up bumping up to a 4.5 at some point.

It pisses me off that this whole thread is about Crack the Skye, with a few mentions of Leviathan. I just don't see how getting slower, more repetitive and more boring equates with getting better. But, then, actually I guess that's nearly exactly the recipe for success.
Remission makes this look like some pony ass radio crap. And Blood Mountain has more progression in one riff than this whole album. Count me as someone who appreciated the whole sludge metal thing, not so much the we're gonna sing really weirdly in your face stuff.

Remission is overrated by people who want to sound like true fans

i'm sick of all the 'true-blood' mastodon fans judging how good it is by comparing it to their other albums.
