I do love Perfect Symmetry, but just listening to it and then listening to any of the three albums that I mentioned, and something just doesn't sound the same anymore. It's strange.

Are QR and FW comparable though? Their styles seem rather different, especially "Rage For Order"/"Mindcrime" but maybe it's just me.

I would say they converged during Empire/Paralllels and that's probably why we're having this conversation on this particular album. Otherwise, I agree.

I've commented before - and reading all the comments and the review again, it will take 5 years before anyone mentions the most important decision the band made with this album was employing famed producer Terry Brown. Its no wonder this album is the best sounding FW album in their discography.

It used to be the best sounding. I'd say the new one sounds pretty damn good.

Yeah, Empire and Parallels are eerily similar albums. Rÿche and FW are generally very different bands, though. I just find Rÿche's songwriting to be generally better, at least up until Promised Land.

I like the more organic sound on this album compared to any of their others.

"Are QR and FW comparable though?"
FW's music is darker and more complex imo. I think after the 1988 albums FW became the better band. That's probably because I'm not a huge fan of Arch era Fates.

" Awaken the Guardian and Perfect Symmetry are really good, but not when directly listened to after Rage For Order, Mindcrime, or even Empire. There's an obvious jump in quality."
I feel betrayed Willie. Only Mindcrime can compete with Perfect Symmetry out of Ryche's discog

Rage beats Queensryche and Fates Warning's entire discographies.

Maybe. I think that distinction should go to Mindcrime.

Rage through Empire over Fates. But then Awaken, Perfect, and Parallels over the rest of Ryche.

"Rage through Empire over Fates"
I'm surprised you'd take Empire over Perfect Symmetry

It could be because Empire was my first Ryche album and before any Fates release, but I just personally enjoy it more.
