why does everyone change the definition of post-black to suit them

probably because it doesn't have a definition, with people throwing around post-black to describe alcest and if there's post-metal in alcest there's hip hop in this

this really is just a black metal album at its heart - one with a unique atmosphere maybe, but it is just a black metal album.

lol one of the most common terms for alcest is post-black metal

i don't understand why your definition is more accurate than the hundreds of other people's definition that consider alcest post-black

then there's the post-black definition of bands like fleurety, ved buens ende, thy catafalque etc.

and honestly calling alcest shoegaze is a stretch too

why are you so sure your definition of post-black is right

there are some people who think it refers to bands like alcest

there are some people who think it refers to bands like ved buens ende

there are some people who think it refers to bands like this

there is no set in stone definition for post-black, there never has been, stop claiming there is - it's a stupid term people coined and never defined

come back to me when you agree on a consensus of what it means

did you really read my post as me trying to prove your definition wrong? i suggest you read it again - i'm saying it's a redundant term when people can't even agree to what it means. why are you so sure that your definition is correct? because you said so? oh, okay.

it's about as well-founded a term as 'hipster black metal'

and i'm not saying alcest is post-black either. until we can agree to an actual definition (and i mean everyone who uses it, not just us two), i'm not using the term to describe anything. it's trite.

so why are people who think post-black refers to bands like alcest or fleurety wrong? and if you answer with "because there's no post-metal in it" i'm just going to label you as someone who can't read

but i think you're wilfully dodging my point so i'm just not going to bother. i'm not saying your definition is wrong, i'm saying it's a trite term that no one can agree on, so why use it?

tyr what album are you referring to

michael it's just annoying when people use trite terms like "post-black" and "hipster black metal" because it's 100% meaningless and it really grates at me because i never know which definition of "post-black" they are using

i mean a quick google search of post-black brings up a wittr album so i guess it also means "cascadian" bands now too which is just as meaningless

it's black metal, end of, i'm sick of everything being trivialized

does that make corrupted post-doom

things can build up and release without being post-black

also it doesn't slowly build up anywhere near as much as you say it does, most of the tracks throw you right in and just weave between sections with smaller builds and releases. you know, like hundreds of other black metal bands.

Corrupted are Drone Doom because they mix Drone and Doom Metal.

but they also use the builds you described, and clean guitars like post-rock

also i already kind of said that this band don't really use post-rock/metal builds whatsoever so idk what gave you that idea

and even if it did, i was trying to say having slow builds similar to post-rock/metal doesn't make it post-whatever

anyway, night night :]
