yeah, people have asked me why my objectivity is so high and if i actually care about it. nah, i just come across a lot of shit i hate since i listen to pretty much whatever peaks my fancy even the slightest. it's a little shifty when someone likes everything/questions the fact that someone doesn't.
Writing about shit music is fun. It's like bullying only sexier.
this. negative reviews are more fun. i mean, look at that good ol' sum 41 thread from a few weeks ago. that shit was great.
can't wait to unleash my neg-ish fleet foxes review on the sputnik masses.

I think it's totally fair to give this a score like 3.5 or a 4. In many ways the music is actually very good.

never checked them out.. playing in the neighborhood in Brooklyn somewhere but it sold out months ago... just like every show in NYC. which album should I start with these guys?
|
| |
The Earth is Not a Cold Dead Place is my favorite.
|

will def check out. thanks
|

btw, writing/conversing about music u dig is pointless. me and my friends check everything out (from the new Britney to Clinging to the trees of a forest fire) and we talk about both the good and bad. been btbam fan since 02, what am I not going to contribute to a thread about their new one cause I think it's stale? horseshit!

You're welcome. =)
And I'm the same. I listen to whatever is being released that peeks my interest. If I didn't; I would never have found artists like Los Campesinos! and even then, I still dislike some of their work (that recent acoustic ep...ew)
You're totally right. The whole point is to learn from each other and test waters of new music we haven't hard whether we like it or not. By giving negative feed back, somebody who likes it may give us something else to look for in their music. =)

"I don't think anyone actively goes out of his or her way to listen to bad music, but you're bound to come across it every now and again. Am I to assume that you think someone who has decided to review music (even as just a hobby) should therefore only write about things he actually enjoys?"
Yeah I agree, neg reviews are fun to read and I didn't take offense to the neg review, I took offense at how he said I enjoyed it because I hadn't heard alot of music. Obviously I overreacted a bit, but teh internetz is srs bizness man.
On the same note though, if he/anyone could rec me some nice post rock that would make me think "wow, this (take care, take care) is pretty underwhelming he was right", I would appreciate it. Bands from this genre/instumental bands I enjoy are Godspeed, DMST, This Will Destroy You, EitS, Mono, Mogwai, Isis, Pelican, and just checked out Program Music 1 and really enjoyed that as well as This Is Your Captain speaking. Haven't really heard much in the genre so far that I didn't really enjoy besides Tortiose and Swans.

"he said I enjoyed it because I hadn't heard alot of music"
does my point still not get through to you?... you don't have to agree, but it's like you're ignoring it.
I simply said that, having only heard 89 albums (based on your ratings, which I know might be off, but I'm still assuming it's a relatively small number for sputnik), you're more prone to like albums you come across.
Looking back, there's many albums I used to enjoy much more simply because I hadn't heard nearly as much music.
OK... 2 listeners that generally enjoy metalcore. One has heard 5 metalcore albums, the other has heard 500. A new album comes out that's generally in the vein of most metalcore. If you were to guess, who do you think is going to enjoy it more?
Yeah, it's an assumption, I never said it was anything more, it was just a guess, but I think it's a fair guess. And you keep pinning me as saying things that I never said.

when you're new to a genre, everything seems awesome
explosions in the sky was one of the last bands in the genre i checked out
it's probably why I find them so shit
but then, if this was my introduction to post-rock I'd probably never listen again, and I'm a huge post-rock fan

oh... who did I steal this from, again?

I do, however, think we should respect this kid's choice to buy music, as opposed to stealing it.
that's fairly irrelevant though
