This is beginning to remind me of Jared's Universum review with all the fans coming in unable to accept an opinion that differs from their own.
12fucking3. So many butthurt fanboys it's ridiculous.

This review is the one featured on the home page, so it was pretty easy to see this review first. That is why I commented on this review first. I found the other one after this one. Pretty simple reason why I commented on this review.
I also wasn't commenting on the reviewer directly, I was generalizing a lot of reviews I have read on this website as a whole being written in a fashion that doesn't suit being called a "review"

Sigh. This whole thread is getting ridiculous. And thanks lunarcheese for responding to us all individually, I thought my laughter was nifty to. At how fucking serious people are getting about their opinions. It's pretty ridiculous. I chose not to bother listening to this because nothing past HU has interested me too much. And I didn't want to be disappointed.
Crysis, please write up your review. I know you don't want to(understandable) but please do it.

Guys... you're all entitled to your opinions. Myself, I've listened to this album over 25 times now, and I'm liking it more with each listen, and I'm pretty honest here. It's not a "fanboy" thing, like believing my own lies etc. I honestly think this album is great.
BTW if someone's a "fan" or "fanboy" of a band, he is one for a reason, don't you all think? Myself I find a quality with Scar Symmetry that I don't find with any other band. Still.

One last thing, it's very possible to be 100% objective about an opinion without being subjective based on emotions.
I hope you're not implying that that 4 you gave this album is 100% objective, because ratings in and of themselves have subjective intent.
As for writing a review for this, I'm wary because people will simply attest my arguments to being products of pure subjectivity that have no bearing in fruition because they differ from the "correct" opinion of the masses who are so quick to defend an album from a band that, generally speaking, I enjoy.

I gave this album a 4 based on musical quality of the genre itself. It has some flaws, sure, but it's a very well written album from a song structure stand point. It's the same thing Scar Symmetry has done in the past, but that's not a bad thing. It works for them and the fans. There are no surprises with the music itself, but it is well written.
That's why I gave it a 4.

Take a look at my post early on the last page and it gives my opinion of the musical and songwriting quality (or lack thereof). My problem is not with its non-deviation from the form (lol scar symmetry pun ha ha).

Fair enough. I said it was understandable why you wouldn't. Thanks for justifying lol

Fenix, if the thread is getting too ridiculous for you, don't read or comment on it. Simple.

Oh gosh guys. When I last looked 13 of 16 people thought this review was well written. Now 13 of 13 think it was. Now it's obvious - the staff is taking sides.

I have to see for myself if this really sucks ass after all the talk about this album. Downloading now.
Nevermind, can't find a working download. Oh well.

Of course the staff takes sides. They can do whatever they want. They've even said that before on other threads. Most to all of the staff are biased towards what they like and in their opinion, fuck freedom of speech because we are the "elite" Sputnik fuck heads.

That one didn't work for me either. Oh well it's not a big deal. Wasn't really thrilled to listen to this one anyways. I'll try again later.

This site does seem a bit elitist, yes. The stampede of rating Blackwater Part a 5 can be taken as proof of that. A good album, but I gave it a 4,5 just out of defiance (and incidentally, that's what its average is).

Doesn't surprise me that they would hail that album as a classic. It's good, great even, but not a classic. I consider Still Life a classic Opeth record.
