Lol, don't worry about it. Why do people always assume there's an angry tone just because there happens to be a swear word in the comment?

no but can we actually discuss this

what is the highest rating a 3-song EP can "fairly" earn

and at what length does an album become eligible for a 4.5 rating

i'm interested

The material on show here I personally think, whilst of excellent quality does not merit to be held

.5 away from being heralded as a classic or nearing what is to be considering a potential future

classic.

It has more to do with the credibility of the artist and the profiles who's putting this out I

believe, if say clubroot had put this who's nowhere near as well known but is on the same level in

terms of quality music he has produced, and Dev had written a review on it trying to drum up some

recognition I guarantee the ratings wouldn't be so inflated. In fact look at 2562's and FaltyDL's

new albums - higher quality than this but yet not as well known and the lack of 4.5s etc. is

telling.

If you're wondering why dev's coming out with sarcy comments maybe ^ is why.

But, seeing as this is one of my more serious posts on this shitty site, it does boil down to

personal preference, this is just one humble Caribbean/Englishman's take on this subject, you may

fully disagree and love this pseudostep.

that literally didnt address anything i asked because your original comment took issue with this being an EP and people giving it 4.5s, not this being 3.5-worthy and people giving it 4.5s (which is subjective!!!! of course!!!! i think this is a 4.5. call me um "biased towards burial"--whatever that means, yawn--but i like it enough for it to be a 4.5)

Due to the short track list of this release and considering street halo is really the only thing

that would separate this release from being songs that just didn't make it onto untrue, I think it's

ludicrous that the body of work on offer 1 highly interesting track and two run of the mill (granted

it is Will Bevan and they're still excellent) tracks be held alongside as nearly being good as his

full lengths.

There is a gulf in quality between this and untrue, that's why I judged it at 3.5.

My initial assertion that an EP can never hit those upper echelons, on reflection was rather brash,

I just think it's extremely difficult for it to be considered higher than a 3.5-4.

Take or leave my explanation, I see you're determined to try and 'take me down' as it where since I

appear to have wandered onto your 'home turf' lmao.

i have no problem with you being on my "home turf" unlike you forum elitists

it's just that you said something idiotic and was all like "hurr durr review site people" and now
you're changing your argument because you are dumb

"4.5 for a 3 song ep

fuck off review site fags"

"It's ridiculous to state that a 12" can be near a classic."

^^^^this is what you said

not "oh i disagree with these 4.5 ratings because i dont think it deserves that"

but

"this doesnt deserve a 4.5 because it is an EP"

you directly ascribed it's un-4.5ness to it being an
EP and not it not being good enough (which once again is subjective and all that so "review site
fags" seems a little uncalled for over what you now seem to imply is a matter over opinion) (that
said you still say "Due to the short track length of this release" which confuses me. why does the
track length matter? how does that affect its quality??)

youre right i shouldnt care about this shit but when someone says a dumbass thing and then
backpedals like fuck it's just really annoying, especially when they have to add something asinine
like "pfft review site fags" at the end

Well my initial comments were deliberately inflammatory, I've stated numerous times I come here when

I'm bored and bait half arsedly when I'm taking a break from dissertation work/research.

I could of gone through with it and put more effort into it and gotten more ridiculous, but as I

stated I decide to give you a more serious response and one that reflected a truer opinion on this

release, which of course is a subjective one.

To clarify however how does the limited number of tracks affect it's quality ? I believe there

aren't anywhere near as quality tracks on here than on his full lengths, barring street halo the

other two tracks are of a lesser quality to that on his full lengths, it has less number of

opportunities to leave a mark on the listener than say a full fledged album of 11 tracks which I

believe provides in this instance a more fullfilled and higher quality of work.

However it would seem that you are of the opinion that it is erroneous to compare a more limited

body of work to a more fleshed out body of work and this doesn't impair how you rate it as such. I

have a different outlook, this ep left me feeling unfulfilled, than say when I was listening to his

s/t or untrue which I love both equally and love throwing on almost weekly. No doubt with the vibe

that this has given me I'll probably love his next full length release.

Anyway I'm over this argument because the further and further I explain my position the more and

more it sounds like i find this abominable, which I don't, I love the techy house feel to street

halo.

"I believe there

yeah okay but this is your opinion. i don't get where you are going. i ask you why a 3-song EP (not THIS particular EP) can't be a 4.5 or whatever and you keep saying, "well, this just isn't very good". that's a matter of quality, not of length.

stuff like this: " I
have a different outlook, this ep left me feeling unfulfilled, than say when I was listening to his
s/t or untrue which I love both equally and love throwing on almost weekly"

is just your opinion on the work. what does length have to do witht that?

the following is the only thing that has to actually do with length, and it doesnt make sense to me: "it has less number of
opportunities to leave a mark on the listener than say a full fledged album of 11 tracks which I
believe provides in this instance a more fullfilled and higher quality of work. "

yeah, and a 22-track album has more instances to leave a mark or w/e than an 11-track. so is that better?
