Lol something tells me you wouldn't dig Rrroooaaarrr or War and Pain if you think the production is that bad.
Personally I thought the production was pretty bad when I first listened, but one song clicked (Tornado, iirc) and I just jammed it until I got used to it and could easily differentiate the bass from the guitar.

It is kind of muddy, but the grittiness of it works well with the atmosphere the album aims for. The guitar sound is just awesome.

RRROOOOAAAARRR's production is pretty bad, though. It took me a few listens to finally make out the riffs. It hurts that album, too, because there are some cool riffs buried under way too much distortion and fuzziness.

maybe voivod should consider remastering the earlier releases

Dimension Hatross with Nothingface level production would be the best record ever recorded without any close competition whatsoever.

I think Dimension Hatross sounds perfect honestly. The reverb and thick sounds add more to the dark, somewhat psychedelic atmosphere. RRROOOAAARRR could've used production more like that of War and Pain, loud and crunchy and abrasive but with the riffs being fairly easy to actually distinguish.

I've only heard this and Dimension Hatross so far and I def prefer this one. Both are awesome though.

"maybe voivod should consider remastering the earlier releases"
ohhh boy, you could not have been more wrong. Original mix/master is part of the album sound and artist's vision. Remix or remastering jobs of classic albums are completely obsolete in my opinion.
The first 2 Voivod album sounds perfect and displays their one of a kind barbaric proggy punk-infused heavy metal.

i really disagree. some albums don't need remastering because their production is already fine. however, this one's production is actually terrible and needs to be fixed, even if it's a part of the "charm"

I read an interview from Away, saying that the back catalogue of Noise Records has been recently acquired by BMG and re-issues are being devised as we speak.
Here's another source for the issue:

Only thing I want is a reissue of Angel Rat.

Best Voivod. The production absolutely rules and I wouldn't change a thing about it.

It's a punk rock album, it's supposed to be that way.

I don't really think an album's genre justifies poor production

There is only one album that well and truly could use a remaster. That album is ...And Justice for All. Everything else is just fine the way it is.
