To be honest, people weren't the smartest to expect another Sufferer or Siren Song, IMO. It is easy to see how their
sound has changed over the years. I know I wasn't. Instead, I look at the songs for what they are. This album as
quickly grown on me and might be one of my favorites. Favorites are : Help is On the Way, Architects, Satellite, Survivor
Guilt, and Make it Stop. It might not be their best, but it's a heck of a step forward from AtR! They are all catchy and
fun to listen to.
Just chiming in. Feel free to comment!

AtR was better than this by far. I was expecting a more return to form with this album due to their two song ep which was just that. Also Tim has said that he wants to make his music harder but the record company won't let him.

Well said BrewersBoy. We have obviously approached this album similarly & we almost have identical highlight tracks. Welcome to the site.
Dino, it's always unreliable to be led astray by 2 songs.

If this had been released by any other band, it'd be a 3. But, I have higher standards for Rise Against. Every album up to Sufferer was a 4 or better. And then, Appeal to Reason. AtR is IMO their worst work. It was far too mid-tempo, and a complete departure from RA's excellent sound, that traded it in for a more radio-friendly sound. I have to give credit where credit is due, and Tim's lyrics have been excellent even through AtR.
His lyrics are also spot-on here. I haven't listened to the album since I rated it, but if I can hear Principe doing some fancy stuff, I'll probably bump the rating to 2.5. It's just disappointing that they are sticking with radio punk instead of melodic hardcore.
When my mom calls me and says she heard and loved Rise Against's new album, I just die a little inside. She went out and bought me a copy, and it's in my car now.
Hopefully it'll be a grower.

Hehe. I don't think I'll be buying my mum this album for her birthday!
I dunno, I prefer people to be objective and rate albums on face value. But they're your ratings & I'm not your dad.

My mom can be really obnoxious. I haven't lived with my parents since high school, and she acts like I still depend on her for living, when I'm doing just fine with my engineering career. The album is growing on me, although I really hate Help Is On The Way. Tim repeats the chorus waaaaaay too much and it reminds me of top 40 radio stations.

I'll never understand why the epitaph of Radio Friendly is considered negative. Its like how the label liberal is considered worse then being called a kiddy fiddler in the US political scene.
That said I find this record a strange beast after some ruminations on it. I'll happily listen and enjoy it at the time but it leaves little lasting impression.
Decent review as always Davey.

Hey Daniel, when next you are in trouble & you call your mum, you know what she is going to say in response, don't you... HELP IS ON THE WAY!
Thanks GK. And I semi-agree about the "memorable" factor on this (especially when compared to their other LPs).
