theres a mismatch between his voice and the music. they seem to just not go together on some tracks- barely
but that's like the best part adam comeonnow.

My conclusion is that Adam dislikes the album for the exact same reasons I like it - namely, the contrast between Blake's voice and the cold, sparse beats, and the constant presence of negative space.

the way I see it, the vocals are hardly aesthetically different from his sampled vox on klavierwerke, in other words the vocal melodies may as well be a loop.
it's blake's brilliant production work that give context to the vocals and change each track from a soulful melody to a song. the little blurs under the vocals that build and die down seem to be giving narration to the imagery of the vocals, while the vocals go on without seemingly taking notice of the beats.
hope that made sense. tl;dr: i fux with dis album

Sampling now and this sounds fantastic. How does it stack up with his other releases, style and quality wise?

Unluck is my favorite song in this album, so so good. can't stop listening to it bro. and yes this is dubstep, minimalistic dubstep.

Whenever I listen to this I'm reminded of the xx and How to Dress Well

i haven't given this record a chance at all but it turned me on to feist's version of 'limit to your love' and i love it for that. (also the cover)

wrt xx i honestly wish i did but their sort of music seems to be intrinsically the one where i pick out a max-three amt of favorites and ignore the rest because it is boring to listen to in full
how to dress well is just brought down by its production, not only the fuzz (but yes yes yes the fuzz too) but also the fact that some songs sound like...uh, a dude singing along to crappy music ('mr by and by'!!!!!)
this however is awesome in that it has a sort of sustained mood/atmosphere i guess but never gets repetitive and works really well as an album. and of course his production is fantastic

well the xx album was probably my favorite of 2009 - it's homogeneous, yes, but it's also really short
But I agree with you on your last point; this also has a sustained atmosphere that is arguably homogeneous, but it always feels interesting.

In every forum and every site I've come across where people are talking about this album, there are always the same 2 key conversations: the comparison between this and the xx (and what else this album sounds like), and whether or not this is actually still dubstep

Honestly the only legitimate similarity between the xx and this is the production.
Also, I really like the xx.
This has fuzz and vocal melodies similar to How To Dress Well, although this is more minimalistic I'd say and it embraces a more folk/soul sound than anything by HTDW.
This album has nothing to do with cuddling.
