Phobia was definitely better. Of course when I joined the site and wrote my review for it, it was a
fanboyish one that said it was their best yet. I've since lowered it from a 4 to a 3.5. I still think
it has some really strong individual songs, though, just not as many standouts as Phobia or WANA. Also
keep in mind I'm a bigger fan of BB than Red.
And you should definitely write a review if you get the chance, dude. You seem to be good at
articulating your thoughts on albums.

I might be experiencing the same fanboy phenomenon with Red that you did with Breaking Benjamin. I gave End of Silence a 3.5 and Innocence & Instinct a whopping 4.5. I've thought about lowering the rating I gave Innocence & Instinct, but I think the lower quality of this album did nothing but reiterate how much I loved that album.
At least it's a healthy bout of fanboyism, I suppose. Unlike most fanboys I know, I don't really care if anyone else likes something as much as me.

I&I has some killer tracks, that's for sure. Shadows is still my favorite song from the band. I never
quite dug it enough as a whole to bump it to a 4, but it's definitely pretty close for me.
I just don't see this one having very much staying power at all, outside of maybe 3-4 songs tops.

Neither do I.
Unfortunately, though, Red seems to be entering the national spotlight after the release of this album. They've already performed on Conan and are set to perform on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on the 16th. In addition to that, they're performing at Winter Jam.
I don't have a problem with them entering the national spotlight at all, but I have a problem with them doing it with the release of an album that's considerably mediocre compared to the best they're capable of.

This album might be mediocre compared to I&I but I feel that it's also the most accessible/mainstream thing they've ever done. Because of this I think it's almost a good thing that they're getting more attention at this point because I really doubt that anyone would have given a shit about them if they'd played a song like Out From Under on Conan. It's one of the best things they've ever written but to get into the spotlight they need music that more people will instantly enjoy. On their next album they should get back to writing fucking amazing music but as it stands I think this album is exactly what they needed at this point in their career.

Does anyone know if they got their old drummer back for this album?

I only like a few songs off this whole cd. I'll look into their older stuff.

Does anyone know if they got their old drummer back for this album?
Wikipedia shows that Joe Rickard was credited for drums on this album.
Interestingly enough, and completely unrelated, it seems someone has recently added credits on their Wikipedia album pages for the violinists, violists, and cellists that contributed to their albums.

This album is growing on me. I still think "Not Alone" and anything after "Who We Are" is stupid and doesn't belong on the album at all.

Yes I can Agree that Innocence & Instinct was better, but give this band some time. I think they rushed thier 3rd album a bit quickly. If they hit a fourth I expect greatness.

Are there any songs that are on par with Innocence and Instinct or is it all feces.

Feed the Machine was probably the closest to I&I IMO. Basically it's all good just not great.
