Dropping in to say this band's like the greatest ambient ish ever.
|
| |
Tim Hecker is the best for me but these guys are up there too
|
| |
I know we’re skimming off the top here but Brian Eno has to be the GOAT, even notwithstanding his status as the guy who established the conceptual framework for ambient music

Brian Eno, definitely the GOAT. My ear isn't attuned enough for Classic ambient though. It ends up sounding dated to me
|
| |
The Pearl that he did with harold budd in 1984 holds up well, if you havent checked that before

Tim Hecker stands as best for me right now. Eno may be a Pioneer but I think Hecker may actually be a genius.
That being said, I actually haven't spent much time with Eno's material

I will check out The Pearl then!
& agree Hecker's a genius.
But so far Stars of the Lid is just masterful for me. Like, "Of course this kind of sound and composition exist; it's absolutely beautiful. Why did it take me so long to find it?" etc.

I take everything back. I like Refinement more. Austin Texas Mental Hospital is still the greatest ish ever though

They are basically equal in my eyes. I alternate between favorites so much, although I feel more sentimental about this one.

I'm really about to 5 this (I've 5'd Refinement). This is so honed in on.

Also, this is a great review!

Rapidly falling in love with this thing.

Yeah without Austin Texas Mental Hospital I'd say this is almost a perfectly executed record.

Been on an ambient kick lately so I think it's time to give this a go.

Woah Trophy ATMH is god-tier, what gives

Eh its alright. Part 2 is overly long for my taste and feels like it's claustrophobic enough to belong on Music for Nitrous Oxide or The Ballastad Orchestra instead

This pretty good, but not anything groundbreaking or mindblowing. I actually ended up falling asleep while listening to this (not in a bad way).

Yes this record is definitely not either of those things (except for Down 3). But it just succeeds so well at the things it is trying to do.

That run from Mullholland to Piano Aquieu is just about as perfect as it gets.
