Taylor Swift, Best New Music.
It's come to this hey.
|

I don't get it. I actually sat through most of this record this time instead of writing her off based on the singles, and it's just... way too meandering. All of her songs are self-indulgently long and filled to the brim arrangementwise, both of which hurt her writing immensely. Underneath it all, the writing isn't awful, even if it's incredibly similar. It just suffers in the fact that it's so overproduced it hurts.
Also, the henious amount of autotune on this record kills any quality of her voice. When you hear audible Lil' Wayne autotune catches, somebody didn't do their job right.

No doubt this is professionally done and those who like this kind of music will love it suppose. I just long for the days when the people who were most successful in sales actually tended to sing more creative melody, it would be better if those who were more sophisticated in their music were more popular too. Another thing missing from this kind of music is some large honest emotion carrying the music, nothing wrong with that kind of thing it doesn't have to be thought old fashioned.

Yes I did, the best track for me was probably Never Grow Up, though I still probably didn't like it much. There is some emotion on the album but the generic music kind of contains it, I'm not sure it really sings out like some of the best Western pop music of the past has. It feels like the music contains and controls all the emotion to me, rather than feeling the emotion guiding the music. Really we can put this kind of music - and The National imo - in this kind of middle of the road Americana / country music sound.

You were comparing stay small to never grow up eh? I forgot taylor swift has a kid like brendan brown and is singing about how she wants the child that she has to not grow up in such a materialistic and corrupted enviroment wih alcoholics who expose their children to alcoholism and prostitution at a young age. You're right, Taylor Swift is sooo deep. Oh wait, that's not what her song is about? You are saying they have "similiar themes" so that you can make it look like I listen to the same type of material that she writes? Okay well nice try but you are wrong and I don't listen to music written for teenage girls I don't know if this is a fake review or one trying to get trolls but I find it hard to imagine a grown man would listen to Taylor Swift. Maybe the reviewer gave it a good review so the website gets hits. Yeah, thats probably it.
