I think my soundoff explains this record best.

Honestly yeah.

part of me gets where they're coming from

and part of me thinks they're fucking idiots

Maybe they didn't think it was well written. Stop assuming that all the negs are a result of upset fans taking the only form of revenge at their disposal

yeah chan I know... and you always seem to have legit criticisms of my negative reviews, no matter how confident of them I am, and they've helped me refine my opinions in the past so thanks.

later guys.

Emery still sucks.

it’ll probably happen with your genre of choice eventually if it hasn’t already.

to not with.

But not only does Emery drive the last, gaudy nail into the coffin of post-hardcore with their putrid music (via Tooth and Nail records, nonetheless), they do so with no grace, no style.

I remember Ulsufyring telling me that this was bad grammar and it should be no grace and no style. (He said that about a similar sentence, not this one in particular.)

“Evolution!” fans of Emery are sure to cry out in unison (an annoying mixture of screaming and melodic singing, most likely) in response to this reviewer’s disgust, “Just because it’s different doesn’t necessarily mean it’s bad!”

Change that to "Fans of Emery are sure to cry out "Evolution!" in unison (blah blah) in response to this reviewer's disgust ; "just because it's different doesn't necessarily mean it's bad!"

More importantly, they accomplish what Emery diehards love about the band- make post-hardcore accessible... but at what cost?

Obvious.

Either way, ...In Shallow Seas We Sail, as an album, is proof enough that some things just don’t mix comfortably; and Emery’s rendition of accessible post-hardcore is altogether cringeworthy.

A bit cynical?

Fragment.

I'd be here all day if I corrected unnecessary comma usage. It's not bad grammar per se, just unnecessary and very awkward writing.

As well, I don't really get a sense of what the album is. More specific please.
You're inconsistent with the title here.

it's sorta funny because you shit on MichaelJordan (at the time, not generally) for inciting the retarded uprising of CTTS hate/trolling and then you basically have the same effect/intention here (albeit on a much smaller scale)...

i still haven't negged but i might in the future but i probably wont but IDK FOR SOME REASON I FEEL LIKE I SHOULD.

In before more Enrique pictures.

I'm not sure you got my point. Let me take away the sarcasm.

Don't argue in generalizations, especially when you're not speaking for the audience you're representing. It makes you sound incredibly condescending and it's totally unnecessary.

Emery isn't a very big band at all even on "the scene" so to claim that they singlehandedly ruined post-hardcore is pretty nuts. There is no way that an album that came out in 2009 had enough influence to change many bands' viewpoints about P-H music to the point of where it could be detrimental to the genre.

My complaint about the review is exactly what planewreck pointed out. Plus, you didn't even give near enough flaws to the music to warrent a 1.5.

I wouldn’t want to outright accuse Emery of “dumbing down” the post-hardcore aesthetic for more listeners simply because it fits precisely into their aim of reaching as wide an audience as possible with their Christian ideals, but it’s not a preposterous suggestion.

yeaaa i don't really pick up on this, either...

It's easy academy. Emery listened to RoC and was like LOL CEDRIC then they were like hmm... Church!

Then they were like, "lets do this but worse so that we can force feed our religion to people!"

But really it doesn't make much sense now does it?

just emery doesn't seem much more christian than most tooth & nail... these songs sound like they're about a girl not a carpenter.

idk i think you're severely overestimating both emery's popularity and their influence. they're not all that big

This is about 1/100th as Christian as anything released by mwY or ACB.
