God. If this is really being hyped as a modern classic then hip-hop is in a bad, bad state of affairs. The fact alone that it got an 8.4 on Pitchfork while Recovery got a 2.8 pretty much says it all as to why that site is godawful

shit basically pinpoints the exact problems i have with this dude. easily the best thing i've read about the record so far; it's also a thank me later review where someone is being honest and is legitimately knowledgeable, instead of hype-mongering or just simply being hopelessly ignorant, like holy shit finally

i saw the use of the word "flaccid" in this article and realized it's the PERFECT word to describe Drake. his style of hip-hop is like... flaccid penis hip-hop. its still good though.

major fail at pitchfork...

@Counterfeit: If you consider Carter III in the larger context of pop music then yes it is absolutely a classic. Purists will tell you he is a shitty rapper but I think it's bigger than rap music. An album has to be considered in all potential contexts and selling a million in a week in the modern musical landscape makes a great album musically a classic in the broad spectrum.

Nah. Carter III isn't fit to lick dirt off the boots of the true hiphop classics

Yeah that's why I said POP. Read before you post. Anyway, http://www.cokemachineglow.com/record_review/5468/drake-thankmelater-2010 is a funny review of Drake.

but pitchfork isn't a fan of rap that's not about bitches, cars, guns, jewelry or drug dealing (well, unless it's this garbage).
