Finally got around to this (both Klapper's review and the album itself). On first listen, I actually liked the second half of this album a good deal more than the first. Will have to give it another go though.

while the album as a whole might not seem as a grandoise as oracular spectacular it shows restraint. This allows songs to develope at a natural pace. Congratulations exhibits this trait particularly with its synth lines that tease the entire length of the song before leading the song to a satisfying conclusion. Definitely an underated album.

Well you guys apparently don't own the track "Metanoia" then, cause once the title track is finished in my iTunes, it rolls on to that 14 minute behemoth, THEN, "Time To Pretend" =P

This album is far more solid than the self-titled, yet it has same rating...

It starts out with this credo: "Love is only in your mind". You people need to access you mind whilst listening to this! I don't understand why it receives this shitload of hate/general dislike. It is a quite wonderful album imo. I find it so quirky and accessible (I really do) and that's probably why I am wondering - what the hell is up?

I am not saying this is a masterpiece (it's not), but it is great psych pop.

Whatever.

Hey people, what does it mean?

Particularly agree with some of the comments in the last paragraph of this review...

I mean, I just read one of the soundoffs claiming that the album starts off with all the worst tracks, which I DON'T necessarily agree with since I think "It's Working" is one of my favorites on here... However that isn't really saying much because the standout moments are few and far between (and I think that's being generous), to the point that I would find it difficult to even pick best and worst tracks.

Apart from the overall (psychedelic) "sound" that persists for it's entirety.... yeah, they have indeed "created a record that lacks any defining characteristics". Just not much for me to latch onto at any point.

Then again, maybe I just need to listen more.

Just listened this album for the first time, and my first reaction is WTF. This is a very awkward piece of work, I'm feeling like a 2 or 2.5 would fit to my reaction, but I'll give it more spins just to see if I missed something...

Opposed to Oracular Spectacular where the second half was somehow weak, I'm finding the second half of Congratulations pretty decent compared to the first couple of songs.
