Where myth fades.. was a pretty terrible album i wont lie, but this one i have to disagree with. I actually enjoy most of the songs. The opening two flow together really well. And i love the fact that they finally decided to NOT overcomplicate their vocals. And honestly their lead sing is really high, but fits well with the emotional style they try to convey.
It definitely isn't as good as OnFrailWings, but still a huge improvement on Where Myth fades To Legend.

hard to take a band seriously when you have what sounds like the singer from A Newfound Glory singing on top of cheesy metalcore while a sexually frustrated Gollum is jacking off behind him
no thanks

First off I really enjoyed the entire concept of this album, it was put together a lot better in my opinion than the previous "On Frail Wings Of Vanity and Wax" simply due to some song placement issues that just didn't make the last half of the album enjoyable. The vocals are solid, the guitar work shows improvement and the guest vocals add to the appeal.

the emptiness is an AMAZING album with a great story behind it. the lyrics are enchanting, and the blend of dennis' and shawn's voices will, just like the emptiness, 'haunt you'. the best songs on there are definitely the thespian, the murderer, and the artist. saw this concert and was greatly impressed.

Alesana's 3rd LP 'The Emptiness' is widely seen as the post-hardcore act's best record, with the sextet stretching themselves to add more variety to their sound, as well as ambitiously take on the task of writing a conceptual narrative. All of the band's trademark elements remain, but they seem more focused here - especially vocally, where Dennis Lee's divisive screams only complement Shawn Milke's clean vocals. The spoken word samples may be too melodramatic, but otherwise this is a definite step in the right direction that holds up all the way to its closing 7 minute highlight. Recommended Tracks: Annabel, To Be Scared by an Owl, Hymn for the Shameless & The Artist.
