When do people bring up pitchfork here in a serious manner? Tbh I actually have a soft spot for them but I don't take them 100% seriously.

the people i see criticizing pitchfork are almost always terrible writers. i just think it's one of those cliche sputnik things to rail on them, seemingly because everyone else does or because of the albums they hype

I see. Their writers are generally good, though they have the tendency to be overwrought. Their ratings are generally appropriate and fairly well-defended, but they are prone to overrate certain bands and underrate others. They particularly underrate artists' late career efforts.

^ sputnik does literally the same thing though. there are dozens upon dozens of albums on here touted as the best. even yesterday i was looking at the ratings across all of genesis' albums and noticed how overlooked one of their best albums is (wind and wuthering). pitchfork writers are somewhat pretentious at times though, i'll definitely agree to that. despite that though i find the content of their reviews more engaging than a lot of stuff on here (staff and contributers included)

I like Pitchfork

They're a review site like any other

I don't always agree, just like any other site

@Gyro: I agree about sputnik's sometimes strange taste, but it is representative of people's general opinions, while Pitchfork's opinion as a major review site has more authority. But most major review sites have their odd favorites and tendencies to overrate (don't even mention Rolling Stone to me).

Usually I have a more or less neutral opinion about music magazines, I barely even read any. But the few stuff that Rolling Stone publishes and ends up on my Facebook feed is enough to make me hate them.

Rolling Stone's news is fine, but their reviews and ratings are usually atrocious.
