I'm surprised at this review, just in my opinion I think it's a great album. And for me, I think it's actually very good that they've kept their 70s rock barrage, its very pleasing just like there last stuff, and it is quite versatile still, with catchy "Far Away" and the different "Violence of the Sun".. well anyway, I think if Wolfmother is your thing, this album doesn't disappoint?

It was always going to be bad though.

On 1st listen, this isn't too bad at all. Sure, it's derivative as hell, but we already knew that. The new band sounds really really tight. Just looking around the net at a few other reviews & I'm surprised to see they are mainly positive.

Yeah I know what you mean reviews have been really positive. I don't know Davey... I just couldn't get into this, I really wanted too, but couldn't.

I don't think there's as many memorable songs as their debut (Woman, Minds Eye), but apart from that it seems fairly up to par. I reckon the new band might go alright live, presuming there hasn't been too much knob-turning on this album.

Well watching them play "New Moon Rising" on rove a month or so back, it was quite bland to be honest, but then again it's not the same atmosphere as a live, "live" show.

Yeah, too true... I'm unsure if anyone sounds good on those talk shows... Especially the Aussie ones.

This is at least better than Jet's latest.

Andrew Stockdale brings in a new (musically tighter) band for 2nd LP 'Cosmic Egg', but Wolfmother's sound has not received an overhaul. The enjoyable hard-rock riffs remain, and they're as derivative as ever. This time, the major influence seems to be Black Sabbath, although as the LP progresses & the songs get longer, the Led Zeppelin worshipping does appear. The driving bass-lines & extravagant riffs of 'California Queen' are a highlight, while the keys in 'Sundial' & organ in 'Far Away' provide nice variation. Whatever your opinion of their debut is likely to remain. Recommended Tracks: California Queen, Far Away, New Moon Rising & Sundial.
