messiah167, am i right in saying that you don't actually own AFD?

Wot im saying people, is that for a debut album, AFD has more well known G n' R tracks on than LZ1 has well known Led Zeppellin tracks on. Look at LZII, how many great tracks are on there- heartbreaker, whole lotta love, lemon song etc. AFD is a better debut album than LZI, but LZII takes a hell of a lot of beatin.

no spameister, its I who does not own it, because I borrow most of my albums from my friends dad who has a library of cds in his basement. I had this for about a month before I was forced to give it back.

I dont think you can even compare LZ1 and AFD for which one was a better album. This Message Edited On 04.16.06

You are a fool. Weren't you the one who said that American Idiot was a "1"? American Idiot has sold over 10 million copies. Does that make it good?

No it hasn't. Jethro Tull have sold over 50 million albums, but does that stop anyone from making fun of Ian Anderson's flute playing?

I've also heard that and I think you're right, but I often hear AFD cited as the biggest selling debut album of all time.

I'm pretty sure the highest selling album ever is still Michael Jackson's Thriller, which has clocked up something like 48 million copies worldwide.
Appetite is the best selling debut though, and it's also the most consistent; apparently it still sells shitloads every week.

IMO Zeppelin are far better than GNR but it doesn't mean that GNR aren't amazing it's just AFD and Use your Illusion 1 and 2 were considered there finest work. Led Zep 1,2,3,4 and Physical Graffititi are all absolute classics just like AFD is but the fact is Led Zeppelin remained more consistent than GNR. Both however are incredible bands.

the amount of album sells in no way is an absolute testiment to the quality of a band. As we all know, this site is about the exchange of ideas and I for one, don't Pink Floyd, even though they are number 3 on the charts of best selling albums of all time. I in fact like Reliant K more than Pink Floyd and "K" hasn't sold near as many albums as The Wall.

But for the sake of knowing the correct facts, check out RIAA's website, it clearly stakes The Eagles best of Album 1971-1975 at the top,(I thought everyone knew that). With "Thriller at 2nd, "The Wall" at 3rd, and Led Zeppelin IV at fourth.
All of them over 20 million. No one has ever sold 50 million of one album.

onefortheman, those are only American sales. Worldwide is different, Michael Jackson's Thriller is number one, I think AC/DC's Back in Black is number 2. That's all I remember from international sales.

Back in Black's the 5th biggest selling album of all time. I love appetite for destruction, as a whole the album defines what Rock n Roll is, a dirty, sexual, drug enduced spazm of absolutely amazing talent, every songs a winner, I couldnt give a single song on here less than 4.5/5. astonishing work

Technically, since there is no international album counting orginization, the correct number of sales cannot be said exactly. The records are based on rough estimate and an agreement amoung individual recording companys. But anyhow, you were right. Worlwide sales put The eagles, ACDC, Pink Floyd, Michael Jackson, and the Beegees at 40 million units or more.
I was talking american sells
