"Nah, Rainbow developed power metal ( along with prog metal and neo classic)"
Agreed. Rising is probably the beginning of power metal.

I've only ever listened to Machine Head, but I picked up a majority of their 60s and 70s stuff recently in an effort to delve further into Deep Purple. This is my first non-Machine Head experience, as far as full albums go
Get on Made in Japan dude, easily the best thing Deep Purple have ever done imo.
Pretty much everything they did in the 70's is worth hearing. Who Do We Think We Are is the least essential but still decent.

Sucks that this hasn't made 10 pages yet. We need more DP love on the site hard.

t/t is a sweet opener, but Highway Star is def better in that regard.
Jammin' this hard. Better than the previous listen.

Indeed Highway Star is one another level plus the riff of t/t on this album is quite stolen from another band.
Speed King is also an awesome opener. Huge difference from April, the closer of the previous album.
|
| |
Yeah, Speed King is quite memorable as well.

In Rock was so ahead of its time [2]. I wish they would have included "Fireball" on Made in Japan though.

Yeah, I'm liking this slightly more than In Rock or MH. The case can be made for any of 'em tho.
