well I do believe that Dfelon and bastard wont jump in but Kingsoby would certainly put things in order. I would call Hollow (my Estonian friend, you may have read some of his reviews and/or discussed rap with him) but we drank together today and well, the man is drunk as hell and wont be gettin up anytime soon tbh

i can quote them though:
kingsoby1 -
ha, you just said "rap music".
bastard -
lol rap music.
I just find it funny that some people think that rap and hip hop are different, that's all.

no, but rap isn't hip hop, Slayer is metal but rap isn't hip hop. RAPPING does go with hip hop but RAP as a music genre is different than hip hop .
You know what, this really is not going anywhere, you think rap is hip hop and I think it isn't. We need the specialists in here tbh
|
| |
slayer is gay but gay isn't slayer
|
| |
it's not a different music genre not all hip hop is rap music but all rap music is hip hop
edit: handoman gets it

Kane, I demand you listen to, for example, Bomfunk mc's (hip hop) and Nas (rap, I see you were just listening to him) back to back and then tell me that the two aint different
|
| |
i get your point but they're both hip hop
it's like saying slayer and death can't both be metal cos they sound different

yaah but "metal" in music is a generalisation, Hip hop is a specific genre of music. There are so many different styles of heavy music that go under the name of "metal", but hip hop is one and certain.

And again I could just say Hip Hop is to Rap, as Body is to Arm. Point: Rap is a part of Hip Hop.
Hip Hop is a culture (really, by definition) and rap is music. There cannot be a distinction created between Hip Hop Music and rap because rap IS Hip Hop Music. Party rap (out of refusal to say, commercial, because that criticism is silly), Gangsta rap, neo soul rap are ALL different forms of rap, thus different forms of hip hop music. So yes, Nelly, Lil Jon, etc. are making Hip Hop music, just as much as Rakim and Eric B, Krs-One, and others did (by no means am I drawing a comparison. I am merely stressing that they all make hip hop music).
