does anyone else agree that all the album covers on the front page - particularly the user reviews - at the moment are really...dreary?

what happened to all the happy?

Jim, maybe that's why this album got featured... To give the front page some colour! Nah, the reason why is because it just got a release in America.

From memory, the duo (or its management) wanted to release it at different times around the world. It got a release in UK/Europe in February & it has just hit the States.

Personally, I can't see it breaking that huge over there. Hell, MGMT were more popular elsewhere than in their homeland.

Yeah, that's my guess too Jim. Although, in this case, I guess it was never a certainty that the album would get a release anywhere other than Australia.

What they need to do is have their 2 lead singles featured as a theme song for a tv show or ad or something, like happened here. The title track was everywhere, while 'We Are The People' seems to be the Channel V theme now!

It is supposed to be a mish-mashed homage to both Star Wars & Indiana Jones.

But let me assure you that is how these guys dress whenever there is a camera around. Make-up and all. Their videos are just weird, but in a sort of good way.

"Rediculously wierd but awesome."

Apart from the spelling mistake, that is a good description Billy. And the videos seem to go well with the songs too. In fact, I guess you could call their music "ridiculously weird, but awesome" as well.

Aren't you picky, the mistake wasn't even intended. But yes, sums up their music quite well.

I am indeed a spelling natsi. ;-)

Someone needs to rhyme nazi with yahtzee in a song.

Hey Ross... Question for you. I am pretty certain this got released in the UK in February. Is it getting any airplay at all (whether it be radio, music videos or anything)?

this debut album being an unapologetically hit and miss affair that contains 3 excellent standouts.

This describes MGMT perfectly also.

Yes, that was my point HighandDriving. The 2 albums are structured very similarly. I also think the 2 duos sound alike, but I can understand why some would think otherwise to one degree or another.

Basically, if you like MGMT and have never heard of these guys, then they are worth a listen. If you only liked MGMT's singles, then give my 3 recommended tracks (+ the opener) from this album a try.

I haven't read through the 8 pages of comments so I'm sure I'll be repeating a comment but I'm not feeling this anywhere near as much as I loved the MGMT singles on first listen.

Yeah, you're not the only one to say that Kirgasm. I dunno, even the MGMT singles needed a few listens to me, but I guess Empire of the Sun may need a few more plays before squeezing into your mind.

Ya dude didn't catch you laying out crystal clear when I skimmed through the review.

Good review and I'm digging the shit out of these guys, they have a certain 80s flair that I love.

To be honest Davey I don't really know, I dont get to watch many music channels and I don't really listen to the radio much (except for football).
