An obvious target for haters, but it's pretty good for what it is - mainstream symphonic black metal. Thankfully i'm too old and hardcore to be bothered by such a label :p

This was ok, band really isn't my style, but still good.

Well judging from your tastes in metal you like more of the core stuff so it makes sense that it's not your style. At least you still like it a little bit though.

Possibly my favorite black metal album of the last few years.

Besides the monotonous nature of the vocals and the largely unnecessary 'A Semblance of Life', i believe this album to be one of the best examples of modern day symphonic black metal. People may argue that nothing here is really new, but the performance of the instruments themselves more than make up for any disappointment found on 'In the Shadow...'. The opening barrage of riffs and power chords galore on the wistful 'The world beyond' and the grandiose overtones of 'Departure' set the otherwise impressive musical stance of this album, and though the quality of these songs are not always met, they certainly still show perfect balance between Melody and Brutality.

"A triumph in the face of adversity"
Agreed.
IMHO, deeply good metal album delivered by a just fine polish production.
Returning to it, often.

Band rules, the trve kings of scene black metal.

Agreeing with Hawks here. Carach Angren have pretty much set thge new standard for how symphonic bm sound. Epic, stunning and brutally twisted with a scourge of offsetting lyrics. But Abigal Williams rule face too.

Carach Angren are exactly what sympho bm shouldn't be because they're lame.
|
| |
if you think carach angren is lame then youre.........
youre something something something
their lyrics to start with ae the shit
|
| |
just to rephrase what i was saying
if you think carach angren are lame then youre as weak and naturally prude as Humphrey van Wayden. If I was your captain id enslave you until the onset of scurvy crept over your body, and then thrust you off the side of my ship when you became worthless. Youre cold corpse would appreciate the watery grave.
