Believe it or not, the Guitar Hero 3 Mixes of this record going around sound fifty million times better than the CD/MP3 mixes. No clipping, more dynamics, you can hear the bass, and best of all, no crappy distortion and pops. I sh*t you not.

But seriously, think about that for a second. That means the general public has access to the masters for Death Magnetic. People are already doing their own homemade mixes to this album and there an online petition with 7000+ signatures calling for Rubin or Metallica to re-mix or remaster the record. Check out the article:

ConorMichaelJosephOkay,so maybe I'm letting my immense appreciation of the band get a bit in the way here, but this album is quite possibly the best Metal album of the year

yes, you're definitely letting your immense appreciation of the band get in the way. and more than a bit. possibly best of the year? you must not listen to much metal. try some of these, each of whom put out an album this year that is lightyears ahead of this so-so outing by Metallican't:

Arckanum
Averse Sefira
In Mourning
Kalisia
Mirrorthrone
Nihil Nocturne
Obtest
Rookwood
Weapon

and realize these only scratch the surface of everything that's come out. Death Magnetic isn't outright bad, but putting it anywhere near a 'best of' list is ludicrous. i don't mean to be rude, but even if i am that's no reason to prevent yourself from expanding your awarenessThis Message Edited On 09.19.08

Istaros I have heard of only one or two of those bands you mentioned, but I have heard quite a lot of metal considering I've only been listening to metal for three years.I try to expand my interest over every genre I possibly can,and even though I may prefer the bands that pretty much anyone who listens to any metal knows of,I like some of the lesser known stuff too.But Metallica are the world's most famous metal band, and they are so for a reason-they're damn good. And i did say I was probably letting my appreciation for them take over a little, but I am damned impressed by Death Magnetic, bearing in mind that they're older than some of their fans' parents and yet still kicking ass.

The album gets better with every listen for me. Really liking Broken, Beat And Scarred at the moment. Unforgiven III has grown on me too.

Downloading the GH3 rips to see how much better they sound.

ConorMichaelJoseph, i'm not denying that they're as well-known as they are for a reason. but the truth is they're as well-known as they for two reasons, not one. the first is that they revolutionized heavy metal, and were among the godfathers of the the umbrella genre 'extreme metal.' the second, however, is because they sold out. big time. anyone who doesn't see their self-titled album as a conscious and deliberate pandering to a popular noise is just deluded, and probably willingly. do they deserve their recognition? absolutely. do they deserve the degree of loyalty they receive that's on par with any hugely popular mainstream rock act? no, unless one considers a voluntary attempt at satiating the lowest common denominator a noble venture.

they're not famous because they're damn good. they're famous because they were damn good, and equally(if not more) because they chose to abandon that. they're not the only band to have done so, but considering the fact their initial prestige was so untouchable, they are one of the most dramatic examples of it

i didn't list the bands i did because they're unknown - the fact most of them are is just a coincidence. they've simply put out better releases in '08 than Metallica did. Protest the Hero made a pretty good album too, as did Equilibrium. Enslaved let one out that most people here seem to really like, even though it's a piece of shit. i'm not trying to convince myself Death Magnetic is bad just because the band's popular, or because their last few releases were bad. it's just an average album. the songs don't communicate anything at all. and aside from that, the fact these guys are multimillionaires in their mid-40s makes it laughable that they're trying in any way to sound angry at the world

Some people are very hard on the album. Come on, it's really not that bad! Of course it's not another master or justice, but in my opinion, it's like another black album, only trashier and with some of the groove that can be found in Load and ReLoad. I like it very much actually, and not only because I'm comparing it to St. Anger! In most songs, the riffs are pretty solid, the chorus are catchy, Kirk managed to include some nice solos (although I must admit, some suck and are not necessary), James' voice fits the songs just right and Lars drumming is... well it's Lars lol.

To all those who bullshit this album, I just hope you are not that difficult with food, bacause if so, your moms must've attempted to commit suicide a couple of times when you were still kids:P.This Message Edited On 09.20.08

There's a 320kbps mp3 GH3 version at the bay with pirates mixed by some guy named Chaos, it's really good.
