yeah, the mastering job on the record is the problem (post-production), not the production itself. That being said, if you listen to it through the right speakers or on the right system (and never on an iPod - unless you have expensive headphones and adjust the EQ) it sounds just fine. It does suck to have to put that much effort into listening to a record though.

eh, I don't play Guitar Hero (or really any other video games for that matter). I prefer playing my actual guitar. That's also not meant as an insult to those who enjoy the GH, it's just not my bag.
