That's true. But I enjoy this album a lot actually. So I guess I'm sorta hypocritical cause if I hear an album that sounds 'blatantly generic' I'll basically ride it off as "it's boring deathcore that only uses breakdowns" but this band DOES have some interesting and unique riffs, while it's not deserving of a 5 or even a 4.5 it's still quite good I think.

Also, the fact that a lot of people have been saying that they're "extremely drop tuned" breakdowns is bugging me. They play 8 strings.

Fuck your 9-string. lol

I meant a 9-string like an 8 or 7 string where the neck is wider and it's just another thicker string.

Their vocalist fits the band perfectly. The drums are exactly as they should be. If they change anything, they would not nearly be as good as they are. And to say they should listen to arsis so they could learn how to put some shred in their music....Well that is the absolute most moronic statement I have ever heard in my whole life.

So removing the awful, boring breakdowns would not be a good thing?

I obviously agree with Thor on this. This Message Edited On 11.30.08

I'm sorry, but plenty of people enjoy it. It makes their music powerful. Their breakdowns are as unique as a breakdown can get. It's not like their breakdowns are like every other bands. If you don't like breakdowns, I can respect it. However, if every band didn't have breakdowns then metal would be boring and samey.

This statement tells me that you haven't heard much metalcore at all. August Burns Red, Unearth, MyChildren MyBride, As Blood Runs Black, and dozens of other bands use breakdowns almost identical to this in several of their songs. (the first two have released good albums, though)

You like this, that's fine. But there is nothing on this record that makes it a "classic" album.

First off, I've heard all those bands. The only band that can compare is august burns red. Since they both use odd time signitures throughout their albums.

Hey now Thor, let's be nice to the newbie. After all, my all time favorite albums when I first joined were a Demon Hunter album and Come Clarity.

To Rareform, don't let anyone's comments get to you. Just use this site to discover new bands. In the meantime, I can tell you that 9/10 people will agree that Jane Doe pwns the heck out of this and a good number of other metalcore albums.

This album's pretty good.. definitely bland at times. most of the breakdowns are semi-unique and enjoyable. but they do use them too much at times, particularly in songs 2-5, and i kinda lose interest. other than that i really like alot of the riffs and the unique tone they have minus the machine sounding dums.

Genre-wise I'd classify this as like semi-technical deathcore. alot of meshuggah influence here. A Vicious Reforming of Features practically sounds like it is a meshuggah song.
