Ridiculously strong 5.

Cantara found it's home as one of my favorite songs of all time.

What's Anastasis like stylistically compared to this and Spleen?

And Cyg, that rating had better shift. Fast.

This is quite addictive. Hella cheesy but in the best way possible.

I think this is too convincingly dark to be cheesy. Some bits verge on it, but it raises itself up.

People consider this album cheesy?

Idk, the whole medieval-influenced sound is kind of inherently cheesy imo, it doesn't really feel genuinely dark to me. But it's all so well-constructed that I don't really care. Maybe with more listens the vibe will become more convincing to me.

Ars when I say it's cheesy I mean that there's not really much genuine emotion behind it, that it's kind of contrived. That doesn't mean it's bad, but for one like me who listens mostly to stuff that's concerned with conveying relatable emotions it means that it's a bit harder for me to really love this. It's growing on me with every listen though, I could see it becoming a 4.5 but definitely not the kind of album I would 5.

I don't think Dead Can Dance meant for this to even be close to relatable with titles like "Dawn of the Iconoclast"

That's what I mean. I got exactly what I expected with this, I can see why someone else would 5 this I just mean to say that it would not be so for me. It's pretty far from my general interests, but I'm looking forward to checking out their other stuff too! :-D

Spleen and Ideal is a fab album, or Serpent's Egg if you like the ethereal side more

This is so ahead of its time, it's unreal.
