They're the top 2 easy...but 'Purple' is still slightly superior to this imo

It's on par with Purple for me which makes it my 2nd/3rd fav. Very fun and innovative record.

Was a bit of a curveball...but history proved them right. Grunge was on its last legs in '96.

Yeah, they didn't play it safe here for sure but it turned out very well. Most diverse record they ever did.

Purple is more cohesive, sure. The last fourth of Tiny Music drags it down a bit.
Every big 90's band release a subpar record on 1996, Tiny Music, although a flop comercially, was a very welcome reinvention of their sound, it's part of what I love about it.
Never been to big on Core, though. Some great moments, otherwise, run-of-the-mill grunge.

easily my favorite STP album tho not as commercially successful as STP's first two albums i wouldn't consider a album that sold 2 million copies a flop by any means.

'The last fourth of Tiny Music drags it down a bit'.
Well 'Caged Tigers' rescues that stretch somewhat, being arguably the strongest tune on the album.

Agreed Doof, although I wouldn't call it the best.
The singles, Adhesive and Tigers rule, the rest is a bit patchy imo.

Clay - I can’t remember which songs are the singles but I probably agree :D
The overall feel of the album bumps this an extra .5 though

Art School Girl is kinda dumb, and Daisy is admittedly sort of "goofy filler"
but Adhesive is beautiful, Ride the Cliché rocks & Seven Caged Tigers is an incredible closer

fwiw I'd say
No 4 > Purple > Tiny Music > Shangrila > Core
not sure where s/t would fit in, probably last but I've only spun that thing like once

Adhesive always been a favorite of mine, glad to see I'm not the only one.
Seven Caged Tigers is not favorite but yeah definitely a good closer, I'm not particular fond of the last bit because of Cliche and Daisy

Always loved Art School Girl, and Seven Caged Tigers is nothing short of amazing. Def among my STP favs.
Adhesive and Ride are both great tunes and Daisy is a nice little interlude that really adds to the diversity of the record.
"No 4 > Purple > Tiny Music > Shangrila > Core"
I'd probably change Core with Shangri, and Tiny Music is absolutely on par with Purple for me but this rating is just awesome bro!

Tiny Music and Purple are without a doubt the most interchangeable ranking-wise for me, in the sense that at any given moment, I could very well give you the same list but with TM at the 2nd spot (and occasionally even at 1st)
Shangri, though, is quite comfortably above Core for me

I dunno about "best album" when it comes to STP. They always seemed like they had great singles and then a ton of filler on every album.

First four albums are pretty consistent imo. Consistently great that is...

No way No 4 is the best imo, kinda felt like they were running out of ideas at that point

definitely not
they were just scratching the surface with Shangrila, tbh
self-titled is the first real "dud" as far as I can tell

4 just has such a bad-ass sound to it, and is bursting with energy from start to finish
plus it has some of their most beautiful moments in Sour Girl, the intro to No Way Out, & I Got You
ironically I've never loved Atlanta as much as some seem to
