Most of the time I just hear the Rush influence over anything else.

WOW one listen and I was immediately hooked. Not entirely perfect, but still spectacular.

That's for sure. Them, Metallica, and Maiden.

The title track is great.

Octavarioum is best song here by far. The rest is passable, but not outstanding.

This album was quite phenomenal. It was the album that got me into Dream Theater, and, while not considered to be DT's best release, it is most certainly my favorite from them.
As for the review, it was pretty "meh", to be quite honest. I usually don't really mind track-by-track reviews, but this one just didn't really interest me that much. No offense to the reviewer.

Album grows off a bit, but remains sufficiently great to warrant a listen every now and then.

Dream Theater are the kings of cheesy lyrics and ballads. The Answer Lies Withing is just a huge lump of cheddar.

Panic attack is arguably their best song. The lyrics are great, the instrumentation is great, and of course the vocals are great.

I don't like Sacrificed Sons tbqh. The Root Of All Evil, Panic Attack and Octavarium are much better

I know this album wasn't everyone's favorite, but I friggin' loved it. The title track was enough to make this a great album, in my opinion.

I like this quite a lot despite the fact there's enough cheese to feed a third world country

Just having James as vocalist produces that much cheese.

Yeah maybe but he has a hell of a voice. As a vocalist in a band myself he has one of the sickest ranges I've ever heard

The similarities between 'Never Enough' and Muse's 'Stockholm Syndrome' are uncanny.

I didn't notice how "These Walls" and "From The Inside" could be similar 'till this review mentioned it. The intros are hella similar but that's it.

Has anyone else noticed this? Here is the key each song is in:
The Root of All Evil - F minor
The Answer Lies Within - G minor
These Walls - A minor
I Walk Beside You - B minor
Panic Attack - C minor
Never Enough - D minor
Sacrificed Sons - E minor
Octavarium - F minor
A complete scale! Fits well with the whole "octave" and "everything ends where it began" theme, I think.
