I think Behold is just too much for most people. You have instrumental stuff like Jeff Loomis' solo album which caters to the lowest common denominator metalhead, then stuff like this which is kind of challenging but still basically accessible, and then you have stuff like Behold which requires an actual commitment and effort from the listener. I said all of that just to support my statement that you can't really compare the two bands because they cater to different demographics.

im comparing them because they have relations to each other. yeah bl is accessible but it doesn't mean the songwriting is as interesting as id like it to be. i like behold the arctopus more because the songwriting is more interesting and is tehnical while still being catchy. and yes i know the demographics thing but they're both pretty easy to compare to each other.

I found this review very helpful. Being one who is used to extreme metal albums with vocals to match, I lost my faith in this album not long after my curiosity egged me to buy it. But thanks to the review I've decided to listen closer.
