this album puts me to sleep, especially at 'Hell to Pay' if your listening through the whole album at once.

I am, they've got some interesting stuff going on at times but overall i don't see what's the big deal about this record.

The vocals are horrible. I don't get why people praise the singer so much. He might add lots of emotion to the singing(and lyrics?) but it doesn't help much, maybe it's the poor production. Instrumentally they are decent. They probably just aren't my style. This Message Edited On 07.13.08

The album is pretty poorly produced. Way too much compression on everything, you can hear the limiters pumping on every beat. Then again basically all hardcore music seems to be made in this way, I personally hate it.

I can understand about the vocals but the instruments are always quite interesting. Vocals take time getting used to

Some people love it, of course. I can see why its appealing to have piercing white noise and the clickity-clack of kick pedals. This Message Edited On 07.13.08

it's appealing because it makes it sound INTENSE

Intensity is subjective. You can hear it, it riddles every instrument, the guitars are middy, with lack of definition, the drums are bouncy, and hi-hats merely add unneeded top end to the lack of definition in the bottom end. Sounds really intense to me.

regardless of how anal you want to get about the production, you have to admit it only enhances the atmosphere on the album. i mean if this album or anything else they've put out had crystal clear production it wouldn't have the immense wall of sound converge are known for.

There's a difference between the wall of sound effect and what you are inferring. A wall of sound recognises the layering of instruments, as well as the psychological and physical rendition of the performance, whether it be live or studio. Pure INTENSITY and the WoS are not the same thing.

Put it this way, I hate it, you love it. I don't think it enhances the "atmosphere," you do. But to me it's an awful trend to be having for music that I think should rely on instrumental definition.

I was merely talking about the production on the vocals, when he does those "screams", screeches or high pitched sounds it almost hurts my ears. It's pretty annoying. The production is kinda raw and solid on the instruments though. This Message Edited On 07.13.08
