agreed. i feel like vocals would take away from certain songs like passing away. the biggest problem i've had with hammock is sitting through entire albums. for years i'd listen to a handful of songs i loved by them but couldn't be bothered sitting through an entire album. they have a lengthy discography and there are quite a few pregnant pauses in some of their albums that kept me from getting to the gems on this and departure songs.

Agreed they do have a tendency to overdo it a bit (Departure Songs especially) but that's literally their only flaw. This and Kenotic are a whisper away from perfect imo

like, almost allof it is still pretty beautiful stuff - even the songs i think the band could omit, like losing you to you - it just lulls me into a state of tiredness about halfway through
|
| |
kenotic is so ridiculously good. i like it as much as this, possibly a little more, but again, took me forever to unlock its true gems

Agreed. Could never pick between the two. Kenotic is like the soundtrack to a month of rainy misty days and this one is like seeing the sun finally come out. Both are truly exceptional. I swear to god "Wish" comes from another universe

high five! wish is my favourite song on kenotic
top 10 hammock songs?

*gives high five* it's what I imagine alien communications to sound like and we just fail to decode it
I still haven't heard Oblivion Hymns and only heard Maybe They Will Sing For Us Tomorrow once quite a while ago. With that in mind it'd be something like
...Like Starlight Into Day
Wish
Raising Your Voice...
Still Point
Stars in the Rearview Mirror
Passing Away
I Can Almost See You
Breathturn
Hiding But Nobody Missed You
You Lost the Starlight In Your Eyes
yours?
|
| |
all fantastic songs ^
i almost forgot how much i enjoy still point, gotta revisit that. i would maybe omit stars in the rearview mirror in favour of ten thousand years, otherwise it looks like we have the same favourites. i don't see a lot of people mention breathturn but that song is sublime. one of their most moving for sure
|
| |
i've only heard a few songs off of maybe they will sing. otherwise i'm pretty sure i've heard everything in their discog numerous times

Mmm, not an easy list to make. Ten Thousand Years, Tornado Warning, Blankets of Night were all incredibly close to making it on there as well. It's hard to pick just one song from the Sleepover Series as a favourite because both volumes work so well together as a whole but I think Still Point represents the whole the best
Breathturn's music video is literally one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in my life
Yeah, Maybe They Will Sing is by consensus their worst I think but I still remember there being some fantastic tracks (this is Hammock after all) just can't remember which were the good and which were the meh. What is Oblivion Hymns like compared to their other stuff?
|
| |
oblivion hymns is very consistent and sounds like you'd expect from hammock, perhaps a little more on the atmospheric side. listen to that album and it'll surely upset your top 10 favourite hammock tracks. i forgot all about how great songs like my mind... or shored against the ruins are. i've only heard it twice so i need to revisit it myself, but yah, stop whatever you're doing and check it out.
i haven't seen breathturn's video - gonna check it out now

Oblivion Hymns sounds like all the string parts lifted from Departure Songs and made the star. It's pretty but it can be a little trying on the patience to finish it in one session
